We had the good fortune of connecting with Miyoshi J. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miyoshi, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Being a business owner is a great experience and you learn many lessons as the whole entrepreneurial process is a new adventure. One of the most important lessons that I’ve learned is to not be afraid to step out and follow your dreams in spite of fear, lack of knowledge, experience or resources. If God has given you a gift or a talent and you seek Him for direction, He will open doors and lead you there. You may not see how it will all come together or even know how it will happen, but it will. Always set goals and celebrate your achievements no matter how small. After all, it’s one less thing you have on your “to-do” list. Along with this, I would say to not hesitate to seek help outside of myself as needed. Seek the assistance of friends and family that may have certain skill sets that would help you or hire someone to accomplish a specific task you may need completed that is beyond your skill set. Allowing others to help is beneficial in freeing up time for you to focus on other needs of the business or to use their expertise in areas that you may not be as experienced in. Achieving success and seeing progress is about being consistent and persistent. Continue to move forward and celebrate those accomplishments whether you personally did the work or allowed others to help you bring your vision to fruition. Always continue to grow and learn as you go through the journey. Pray, be determined, driven, and persistent and you will realize your dreams. Just don’t give up!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am founder and CEO of ALANI, a women’s luxury brand. We sell apparel and accessories on our website www.alaniluxury.com. ALANI represents the beauty and strength of women. An ALANI woman is stylish and enjoys showing it in a classy, sophisticated way yet enjoys being playful and fun. Our company is focused on the customers’ experience by providing quality, design, and style. I’m excited about every step that gets me closer to seeing by dreams realized. What keeps me motivated is the excitement of learning and growing. I’m not where I want to be but not where I was the day before. The only way to progress in business is to keep moving. For me, it hasn’t been easy as I am building a luxury brand during these uncertain times and in these times is when you learn to be creative and do things a bit different. Starting a business and building a brand has its challenges but I love to learn and will find a way to over come situations that I need to conquer. I spend time, when I can, reading books about business or any area that I would like to have more knowledge in. I also reach out to others when I need help. What I would like the world to know is that I am driven and don’t give up. Being an entrepreneur is a lot of focus, time, and dedication but it is all worth it. Jobs as we see are not certain so being your own boss is worth the effort to live a life you can only imagine. I encourage others that desire to own a business to not question or second guess themselves, just do it. You will not know everything and it’s a business that you learn through on the job training. Believe in yourself in spite of your environment. Follow your dreams. You will win if you don’t quit.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Water sports is always fun so snorkeling and kayaking would be a good idea. After water activities, we would probably have lunch in Santa Monica. The third street promenade was my go to hang out spot for a while so we would definitely go shopping there. I would also take my friend to the Marina and we would find places to eat out there. I think amusement parks are exciting and good to do on a vacation. If they never been to Los Angeles then of course we have to go to various tourist attractions. I would also find out what they were really interested in while on vacation and ensure that those things get implemented as well. However, If we don’t get a chance to do all the above we definitely will have good food and catch up with great conversation.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So I’ll make this short and sweet. We are shaped by many things in life including our environment. I love my parents for supporting me and raising me to be independent. This has caused me to not wait for things to be given to me or ask for permission to have something but to go out and get it. You have to be strong and fearless or be strong enough to face your fears and not give up. Of course, I have to also return the favor and give a big thank you to Tiffany Broadway, a fellow business owner, for thinking about me and connecting me with VoyageLA.com. This truly shows her interest in seeing others succeed. I think it’s always important to pay it forward when you believe in someone else’s vision and are able to help them along the way.
