We had the good fortune of connecting with Moises Parra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Moises, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
All my life I was a big fan of sports and entertainment. Had dreams of being a sports broadcaster for ESPN’s sports center. As I grew I noticed people on sportcenter didn’t look or speak like me. I also noticed I wasn’t their target audience. That didn’t feel good. I recognized a void or a lack of representation in the entertainment industry and decided to fill it. That’s when I creadted The Lit Outlet. Worrying about the business side of my company would eventually be priority number 1 in the future. To me the most important thing to focus on is creating a self sustaining culture were people like me can come and be entertained in not only sports but music and other popular art forms.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think a lot of other popular podcast companies or shows are popular because they lean into the controversial topics or create drama from within to gain followers or views. To me that works in the short term. I don’t want people to come to my platform just to see what drama we are on that day. I would like to believe we bring real people with real life experiences to the forefront for the sole reason of giving some free game to the listener. Now I would be lying if I said we’ve never talked about some drama on any show.I just wouldn’t want it to be the only thing we are know for because I think it’s human nature to be curious about what goes on in others Lives.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you are planning a trip to South gate I would start off with a iced coffee and buttered bagel from the new dunking donuts if you are in a rush or a breakfast burrito from Pete’s on tweedy boulevard. Then I would drive down to South Gate park to take enjoy one of the best parks in the area. You can play indoor soccer, go for a swim, play tennis, basketball and countless other activities at the park. For lunch I would go to wing house on Tweedy boulevard. They great selections of wings burgers beer and very nice hostess. After lunch I would take a short drive to the Azalea Center on Firestone Blvd. There you can get some shopping done or treat yourself to a spa day at the nail salon. For dinner you have plenty to choose from at Azalea. You can get a pizza at blaze pizza, some katsu chicken at Ono Hawaiian bbq,a cheese steak at Charley’s or the iconic Inn N Out.For dessert I would head down to Elizabeth Bakery on Long Beach Blvd and grab some Mexican sweet bread for some organic fresh juice. I can’t forget about Hops and Barley which is a great spot to grab a cold beer and watch a game. I would end the night at Edwards theater located on Garfield Blvd. To then the night I would grab a night cap at one our newest bars The Hound Bar. From breakfast to nightcap this is the itinerary I would suggest for a friend visitingy neighbor hood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The viewers, wether new or day ones deserve all the credit. Without them watching or listening to the content we’ve created the small victories we’ve accomplished wouldn’t be possible. I also want to shout-out any one I’ve had on as a guest or co host. Regardless how many views the episode got each episode was a opportunity to get a inch closer to my goals. Also with every conversation I feel like you can begin to start to mold your voice and opinions word by word.
