We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly McNamee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Molly, can you open up a bit about your work and career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I would say that the challenges I’ve had along the way have made my business what it is today.
When I first started working in fitness, I was 21 years old. My only goal was to help people workout. Truly nothing deeper than that. I just enjoyed conditioning my own body and felt like helping others do the same.
Now, in the last decade. I’ve experienced burnout, injuries, body image issues, fatigue, and even a bad concussion.
Each of those injuries inspired me to learn corrective exercise, injury prevention and rehab techniques.
My burnout and fatigue was so detrimental to my life that I had to figure out how to recover and prevent those things from happening again.
Healing joint pain and improving energy through movement are now the two biggest things I help my clients with. I now have a bigger mission that simply to help people exercise.
I now want to change people’s lives.
It’s not as flashy as “I’ll help you lose 20lbs in 20 days,” but the work I do will help improve all aspects of your life. I’ll help your body hurt less. I’ll help you be more productive at work. I’ll help you feel energized so that you don’t feel like crashing at the end of the day.
These are things I discovered that needed myself over the last decade, so I’ve made them the foundation of my brand MFit Workouts.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I had to sit here and think about my answer for longer than I’d like to admit because there are limitless things to do LA. But okay, here would be an ideal day for me…
I’d do a hike in Griffith Park starting near the Old Zoo and climbing up to Bee Rock.
From there I’d say I earned some carbs, so I’d head towards Echo Park and get a bagel from Maury’s.
Go chill by Echo Park for a bit. Depending on the day there may be a flea market going on.
I’d head downtown and grab a drink at the Ace hotel rooftop bar.
Get some food at Grand Central Market and pop in The Last Bookstore.
Other things I’d definitely check out during the week would be… a LAFC game. Catch a show at the Greek. Have some wine at any of the wine spots in city, like Barbix. Do some paddle-boarding in Marina del Rey. Walk around the Hunting Library gardens.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents! My parents are not only by biggest cheerleaders, but they were also my first clients. They have had to test all of my crazy workout ideas for the last decade while I really figured out what my voice is in the world of health and fitness. They are still the two people I go to when I have new ideas that I want opinions on and when I need inspiration. I personally would not exist without them, and my business likely wouldn’t either.
