We had the good fortune of connecting with monica Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi monica, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Through online group coaching circles, workshops, retreats, and The Revelation Project Podcast, my greatest desire is to guide and coach women to embody their sufficiency (enoughness) and to reveal and heal internalized patriarchal conditioning that keeps women in a perpetual trance of unworthiness.
Unworthiness shows up in women through chronic over-apologizing, disempowering inner dialog, unrealized potential, tolerating being undervalued at work, under-pricing oneself, self-doubt, staying in abusive relationships, preoccupation with external appearances, self-loathing behavior and so much more. I assert that these behaviors are brought on by cultural conditioning and gender norms that denigrate the feminine. Women and girls are micro-dosed disempowering messages from birth which are then unconsciously internalized as true.
When women are able to reveal the patriarchal system at play that’s been hiding in plain sight, they can recognize the broken system and the cultural context vs. being enrolled in the belief that there is something inherently wrong with her.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a professional co-active coach, podcaster, and entrepreneur, my deepest desire is to reveal that which has been hidden from us, which includes our own magnificence and divinity. I believe that we are each living our own “Revelation Project” and as we reveal and heal from the toxic myths of separation and scarcity, we come to know our own inherent wholeness and sufficiency.
When we know our own sufficiency (enoughness) and can see that we are perfectly imperfect, just the way we are, we can then see ourselves and others through the lens of curiosity, compassion, and community.
My own journey began 13 years ago with a dark night of the soul that nearly cost me my life. As an entrepreneur and a female, I had been taught to hustle for my worth and to wear the badge of busy until I was completely depleted of everything I had once valued. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and lonely, and was terrified that I’d be outed as an imposter and a fraud. In addition, as a mother and wife, I felt I had to do it all, sacrificing my own needs for the needs of others, and my conditioning had me believing that I needed to prove myself a success in all areas of my life.
I was unaware of the toxic patriarchal conditioning that was the very source of my suffering because, for most of us, it’s hidden in plain sight as “normal”.
We are at a critical junction in our human evolution, and men and women everywhere are beginning to awaken from “normal” which is the trance that has kept us hustling, numbing, and withholding joy and love from ourselves and others. We are re-membering who we were before the world told us who we had to be in order to survive in a patriarchal world. We are re-membering so that we can bring a new world into being that is inclusive, equanimous, loving, and honoring of both masculine and feminine.
My work is really dedicated to embodying the values of integrating both masculine and feminine energies. When feminine values return, I believe that we can then balance the over-identified masculine and bring the energetics of the world back into harmony. It begins with each of us revealing that what lies beneath the shadows of our egos are just the wounded, abandoned and traumatized parts of us that never felt safe, seen or celebrated in our wholeness. As each of us does our inner work, we become the bridge for others and the guide who can bear witness and as Ram Das says “walk each other home”.
The Revelation Project is about revealing, feeling and healing our lives so that we can reconnect to what is natural and true within each of us, and as we do, we bring a new world into being, together.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Rhode Island is a hidden gem, and most people don’t realize that it’s one of the most beautiful and historical places in the US. We’d visit the mansions on Bellevue Avenue, dine at some of the best seafood spots and walk along the oceanfront in many locations, including Newport, Narragansett, and Charlestown,
We would sail, lay on the beach, and eat lobster rolls in the day and sing karaoke at night, or go catch the magnificent sunset on Block Island.
In case of inclement weather, we would visit the RISD museum and check out the art installations or browse the vintage and antique shops in Providence.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
