We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Lost Media wasn’t a mapped out plan…it just happened naturally. I’ve always loved storytelling, editing, and finding creative ways to connect with people. During Covid, I pulled away from the fast paced industry and slowed down to rediscover what really inspired me.

When I first began helping small businesses with their social media, it clicked. My years in the entertainment industry taught me how powerful it can be when someone’s story is told authentically. People had amazing ideas but didn’t always know how to communicate them in a way that felt genuine. That’s when Lost Media really started to take shape.

I’m super hands on, from editing and copywriting to staying on top of trends, but I’m also really strategic about how I approach social media. Every post and piece of content has a purpose. It’s about building a genuine community over time while aligning creativity with strategy to support promotions and sales.

Lost Media started as me just doing what I love, and grew into a business that helps brands show up as their most authentic selves online.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m most proud of making the leap and going for it. Believing in myself enough to build something from scratch still feels surreal. Lost Media started as an idea at a time when I felt very lost (get it?) in my career, and now I get to work with brands and artists I truly admire. My newest client is Pitbull, and I’m so excited to be part of his team — I’ve been a genuine fan for years!

I put in the work to get here, starting as a PA on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, then moving into the mailroom and working as an assistant to Richard Lovett at CAA, before stepping into day-to-day management and digital marketing for artists. Those experiences shaped my leadership skills and attention to detail, but over time I realized I was starting to lose my creative spark and the purpose behind my work.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned are to always stay true to yourself, do the work, and trust the process.

Lost Media is all about storytelling with intention. I love learning each client’s voice…and if it doesn’t exist yet, helping shape it. Whether it’s crafting visuals, writing copy, or developing social strategies for your company goals, I focus on creating communities that foster real, lasting connections between people and the brands they love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This city is so beautiful, and there are so many neighborhoods I could choose from! To keep it short, I’d start with a morning hike at Griffith, then stop by the Silverlake Flea or Melrose Trading Post for a little shopping. We’d definitely grab some ceviche at Holbox downtown…a must-visit! Jon & Vinny’s still has my heart, and I love spending an afternoon on Abbot Kinney or walking the Venice boardwalk.

There are always incredible art exhibits happening, so we’d check out whatever’s new, but LACMA and The Broad are always worth a visit. There’s Sticker Planet in The Grove Farmers Market that’s to die for! We’d see what film screenings or shows are happening around town, and of course, Salt & Straw is a must. I’ve also been wanting to check out Café Todo on a salsa dancing night – that’s definitely on the list.

And no friend trip is complete without Malibu Farm. Eating on the ocean never gets old!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shout out Her Music Club, the women’s event series and blog I started in 2018 with Kate Loesch and Hannah Rosenberg. While the organization has been on pause as I’ve focused on Lost Media, the women behind it truly believed in the vision from day one.

Through our events & interviews that showcased new artists, DJs, & women industry execs, Her Music Club created a safe space for connection, creativity, and empowerment. The community helped shape my own career path and it was always inspiring to see the power behind women supporting each other. I LOVE WOMEN!!! <3 <3 <3

Also my therapist, Ariel — EMDR changed my life. My parents who have always helped me stay true to myself. And my husband Jevon. His encouragement, patience, and our late night brainstorm sessions have kept me grounded & inspired. He is my biggest supporter!
