We had the good fortune of connecting with morgan filler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi morgan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I am an athlete mom. It means being a motivator for my girls to be solid swimmers and to love the water. The way to do this is by being in the water with them – Teaching them their strokes and playing in the waves. This has carried through to See Her Swim mentoring and coaching swimming to girls in the pool and open water.
Our suits are made from durable recycled polyester fabric from Italy and built with performance construction, so the suits last twice as long as regular suits. This means that less suits are going to the landfill. One suit can provide 2 functions- being functional for exercise and stylish to relax. All of our suits are designed and manufactured in California. We prioritize fair labor practices, conscious consumerism, and use as much recycled material as possible. We are looking to partner with a non profit.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a lifelong swimmer. I was on the US National open water team, was ranked 4th woman in the World Cup Open water Marathon Pro Series, and recognized by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.
I have always been disappointed that I could never find a swimsuit that was both stylish and functional- esp after 1 season of use. The choice was fun or practical. While surfing, I’ve had cute suits fall off in the white water. While swimming, if i didnt wear a Speedo, the suits would billow with water. When talking with my friends who, after having children, or having aging, changing bodies, don’t feel comfortable in the cheeky or matronly suits that are out there. I would stand up from boogie boarding or carrying a kid out of the water and quickly adjust my stretched out neckline from kids pulling.

So I created a swimsuit brand, See Her Swim, to combine timeless styles with performance construction and long lasting material. It is for the competitive swimmer as well as for the recreational one. It is for the woman playing in waves or diving into a pool, season after season. The graceful designs capture the woman in the athlete. I can go for a swim and then transition to hanging out on the beach and feel stylish. We are changing how a woman can still look beautiful and great while staying fit. It’s no longer having to choose between being fun and fashionable or fit and athletic. You can be both. These suits are designed for women and built for athletes.

My purpose is to to change how women perceive being an athlete. She can still look beautiful and great while staying fit. It’s no longer having to choose between being either being fun and fashionable or fit and athletic. You can be both.

I have learned managing challenges through sport. I go to swim practice to gradually get better. Obstacles in life and in career are the same. There are many ingredients to work on when trying to achieve a short term or long term goal. Through dedication of showing up and having resiliency when mental or physical performance is challenged is part of the process of growth and development. I must be honest with myself, take constructive criticism from trusted coaches, and understand that learning from the results is key to growth. I prepare and plan. I understand that when I take risks, they are calculated and that the end result is unknown, but my preparedness gives me the confidence to push and aim high.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live just north of SF. So we would go into the city and walk! We would go to Lands End and find a few of the staircase walks that take us to diff neighborhoods. We would find yummy bakeries, like Tartine and eat ethnic food – from dim sum, to Indian to classic restaurants like Zuni cafe. We would go to Calistoga and go for a mudbath. We would walk the dipsea trail in marin and walk in redwood groves in the north bay. We would walk around Berkeley and get coffee at Cole Coffee and go to cheeseboard for delish food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My loving husband.
