We had the good fortune of connecting with moustapha ndiaye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi moustapha, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I have never thought about giving up on my passion. Everyday, i woke with the mindset of this african proverb: “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you’d better be running” This mindset helps me stay discipline to get up everyday and to keep on going and be the best creative i can be. I understand that success does not come overnight and that eventually hard work pays off. With a quality product It is just a matter of time. To quote John Lennon ““Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end. ” so never give up pursuing your dreams, dig deeper.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Self taught fashion designer, A hatmaker and a Jewelry Designer. I love fashion and i enjoy the process of discovering the unknown and i am excited to pursuit my full potential. I enjoy breaking structural fashion rules. Although i am pursuing my passion it has not been easy at time but one thing keeps me in track: discipline to get up everyday and try again, again and again. That is the journey that i enjoy the most. RCSLA is an eclectic brand inspired by tribes and cultures. I travel and put what i see into a clothing art form to tell a story to where i’ve been. I create conversation pieces.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most people visiting love to see the landmarks that are portrayed in the movies: Santa Monica, Malibu, Venice Beach, Hollywood , the hollywood sign. I prefer the longer drive to San Pedro fish market, Balboa Island, Pappy and Harriet. In a city tour, i would recommend chinatown, Olvera Street and visit the oldest house in LA, a cultural visit in Leimert Park, the getty center. I always make it a point to show Skidrow which i call the hidden face of LA because it gives a glimse of the reality that not everything is beautiful and some people need our help.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No person is an island and although i am the face of the brand it is taking the whole village to get us to this point. i am grateful for Mario, heading my sewing team and who has been with me since the beginning.
