We had the good fortune of connecting with Murdock M.P. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Murdock, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from Locarno, Switzerland, a beautiful town surrounded by nature that fed my imagination growing up. From the age of 10, I knew I wanted to work in the film industry. I was captivated by the magic of visual storytelling and began experimenting with cameras and editing early on. I later attended film school at CISA in Lugano, where I deepened both my technical skills and creative vision.

But as much as I loved Switzerland, it quickly became clear that the country didn’t offer a strong or expansive film industry, especially in terms of large-scale productions. That limitation became a big motivator for me. I wanted to be where the heart of the industry was, where film wasn’t just an interest but a full-blown ecosystem.

So after graduating, I moved to Los Angeles in 2017. It was a leap, but it felt necessary. Since then, I’ve been working in VFX, collaborating on projects that I once could only dream of back home. The move gave me access to a world of possibilities and connected me with people who live and breathe film just as much as I do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For me, visual effects are a way of crafting the unseen, adding depth, atmosphere, and emotion to a story without drawing attention to the work itself. What excites me most is the subtle power of VFX, how the right touch can completely transform a scene and elevate the audience’s experience without them even realizing it.

What makes my approach different is that I see VFX not just as a technical job, but as a form of visual storytelling. I’m always thinking about tone, pacing, and emotion, how the visual choices support the narrative and the director’s vision. I take pride in being detail-obsessed, but also in understanding the bigger picture.

Getting to this point professionally has definitely been a journey. I’ve faced my share of rejection, hurdles, financial pressure, you name it. But I learned that persistence is everything, and that surrounding yourself with people who challenge and inspire you makes all the difference. I also realized how important it is to stay curious and humble; in this industry, you’re never really “done” learning.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about my work and my journey, it’s that coming from a place without a strong film industry didn’t hold me back, it shaped me. It made me work harder, think differently, and bring a unique perspective to everything I do. My story is about chasing the dream all the way from a small Swiss town to the heart of Hollywood, and staying grounded in the craft that started it all.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give credit to the creative community I’ve found in Los Angeles—friends, collaborators, and colleagues who’ve offered advice, shared opportunities, or simply reminded me why I love doing this in the first place. It’s easy to get lost in the pressure of this industry, but being surrounded by passionate, like-minded people keeps me grounded and inspired.
