We had the good fortune of connecting with Mykal Aubry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mykal, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
What inspires me and my art is my desire to expand and deepen my awareness of Self and existence, through my physical life. I am driven to express the momentum of my internal, energetic experiences onto canvas, with the imagery that I paint, to activate and support people in opening into a stronger connection with themselves and the universe. Also, to open to new states of being, through a more compassionate, intimate relationship to Self, leading to previously unimagined possibilities, to be embodied and lived.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The collective name for my art is Visions of Origin, which speaks to each painting being an expression of the inherent origin light of existence. The name also speaks to the reality that every one of us is a manifested, living vision of our origin or source intelligence. My intention with my art is to imbue into each of my paintings, the specific energy that is desiring to come through the imagery. I experience it as a radiant force that guides my work. What lights me up is the art inspiring or activating in people, a felt-experience of their true nature and essence, beyond their personality identity. When I’m in the act of creating my art, I am communing with my soul and I experience a deep discovery of my inner being and consciousness, more of who I am. In the process I’m becoming more intimate with Self and its my heart’s desire for everyone to continually have that experience within themselves, to feel ever more connected with their presence, with the universe and with life itself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The most beautiful, inspiring and nourishing places in the city are Griffith Observatory, any of the hiking trails along Mulholland Hwy, specifically Franklin Canyon, (which is my favorite) Coldwater Canyon Park, Sunlife Organics, Next Health, Cafe Gratitude, Lake Shrine, the Wave Silent Disco on the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my mother, who always supported me in my artistic expression and journey.
