We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always loved to travel, fashion and photography. I would share my tips with my family, friends, colleagues and FB followers. My mother passed in 2019 and six months later Travelladyshops was created as a way to honor my mother! She loved to travel, had a unique sense is style, and enjoyed taking photos! My goal is to encourage and inspire women of all ages to travel, find beautiful clothes and take their own photographs.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I take 95% of my own photos and 100% of all my videos on social media! I’m a professional photographer but during the pandemic I needed photos of myself and didn’t have any help. I didn’t want to take my DSLR and expensive lens outside! I purchased a portable cellphone tripod, upgraded my iPhone and started going outside to take my own photos! I used what I learned to help and inspire other women on IG create their own photos and reel videos! It brings me great joy when someone sends me a DM letting me know how I helped them to keep going! I enjoy seeing the photos and videos they create on their own.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thursday/Friday: Washington, D.C. sightseeing and lunch at the Old Ebitt Grill across from the White House and dinner in City Center at Del Frisco’s outside seating while people watching!
Saturday: Annapolis, MD sightseeing and take any of the boat rides! Great area for photos! Dinner at Vin 909. The menu changes but the chocolate pudding is always my favorite!
Sunday: Pentagon, City Mall shopping at Nordstrom and lunch at Matchbox! A glass of red wine with the blackened chicken salad! Continue shopping at Zara and then Uber over to Crystal City for dinner at McCormich and Schmick’s for the fish of the day!
Monday: Springfield, Mall for a day of shopping and lunch at Mikes American Grill. Enjoy the Salmon with asparagus and glass of champagne!
Tuesday: Take great photos in Old Towne Alexandria enjoy lunch on the Potomac River at Blackwall Hitch! Gotta have the crab cakes and crispy brussel sprouts. Spend the day walking and shopping or take one of the many unique tours.
Wednesday: Tysons Galleria for upscale shopping. Enjoy dinner at any of the many restaurants! Maggiano’s is always a good choice! The plates are large enough to share with your friends! Red wine with the eggplant parmesan and signature salad!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this shoutout to my late mother! She always encouraged me to do my best and work hard for what I want! So taught me to never give up on my dreams!
