We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Newberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I love art and beautiful design. I approach everything I do in a creative way. I feel quite lucky to have turned my passion into a career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am truly proud to say that I started this business all on my own. It was a second chapter for me and I just jumped in and began. I knew nothing about the jewelry industry but followed my instincts in terms of design and marketing.  It’s been 11 years and I still love the process. I spend most of my time keeping up with retailers and filling their orders but what I enjoy the most is my time spent on design. Creating new collections is really why I love what I do. I feel fortunate to have a business that bring me so much joy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I like to break it down by areas-

Day 1 – I live near the Brentwood Country Mart so it’s always at the top of my list. Favorite stores are Broken English and Goop (they both carry my jewelry collection), Jenni Kayne, Capitol and Turpan.
Westside food favorites : Clark Street (breakfast) / Farmshop (lunch) / Giorgio Baldi (dinner).

Day 2 – Breakfast at Gjusta in Venice then a walk down Abbott Kinney followed by a short drive to Tortoise General Store to shop their beautifully curated selection of home Japanese home goods. Lunch at Destroyer in Culver City (a food favorite) and a visit to Match Stoneware for handmade ceramics (their hand poured candles are quite special). More shopping around the corner at Platform.

Day 3- Downtown LA– shopping at Dover Street Market for curated designer clothing in a warehouse setting, The Row where favorites are -Go Get Em Tiger for coffee / Hightide for stationery and unique office supplies / Kinto for tableware / LVIR clothing. For art – Hauser and Wirth / Manuela for lunch /MOCA the museum depending what’s on view / drinks at Apotheke / dinner at Majordomo or Damian.

Day 4- West Hollywood- favorites include Maxfields for designer clothes / the shops on Melrose Place / Dries Van Noten on La Cienega / Galerie Half on Melrose for antiques / Garde on Beverly Blvd. for beautiful home furnishings and accessories / Just One Eye on N. Sycamore for curated designer clothes and accessories. Food favorites : Tartine on N.Sycamore (breakfast or lunch) / Jones on Third (lunch) / Angelini Osteria (lunch or dinner) / Tower Bar (cocktails and dinner).

Day 5 – Drive up the coast to Malibu- enjoy the beach views on PCH – lunch at Broad Street Oyster / shop at James Perse and Maxfields. A sunset dinner at Nobu Malibu is the perfect way to end a stay in LA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really knew nothing about manufacturing jewelry when I began. A friend of a friend introduced me to a factory here in LA that could produce my designs. I needed a lot of hand holding in the beginning as I did not understand the production process at all. So a big thank you to those who helped me at the beginning and are still with me now. The growth has been rewarding for all of us.
