We had the good fortune of connecting with Pat Knox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pat, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Solid work ethic and motivation are a must, but I think resiliency is key. What I mean is being able to believe in yourself and keep your efforts going strong, even when you’re not getting positive reinforcement. In fact, you might even get told what you’re doing is wack or wrong. The point is to maintain the same focused energy and confidence you started with, and don’t let the inevitable negative energy shake you. Understand that there’s going to be a lot more obstacles and adversity than rewards, and that you should learn to value and welcome all of your failures along the way. Going through hardships and struggle means you’re also growing and leveling up, so it’s definitely worth getting used to for me. I learned to love myself more during those times along with practicing other mental and physical health exercises. This helps me to keep perspective and appreciate what I have when times look bleak.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Looking back on the work I’ve put in and personal growth that’s happened since I started is definitely important for me. I found it was more helpful to focus on that than the end goal. I used to get lost in the feeling of being too far away from where I ultimately envisioned myself, and it brought a lot of negative energy, which wasn’t productive. Paying closer attention to the ground I’d been covering was a more uplifting approach and helped me to keep the train going. Last year was rough, but I’m grateful to have stayed healthy and busy. I’m very excited for the release of my first album, written and produced by myself and my long time friend and collaborator, Connor Bush. To add to that, with the help of our other close friends, we made two videos for the singles “Come Over,” (which is out now), and “I’m On,” (coming out at the end of the month). Being independent and making it happen without a label is equally rewarding and exhausting. It’s a great challenge that comes with freedom to create whatever you want and the ability to work with people who truly believe in you. Unforgettable memories were made during the process that I would never trade. I’m thankful for all the lessons gained along the way. I’m extremely proud of my team in the way we developed our ideas and saw them all the way through. The opportunity to keep the momentum and build off this fuels me every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, we gotta grub down Sonoratown burritos in DTLA. Then, we can hit the coast anywhere from Huntington Beach to Malibu. Back in town for dinner at The Nice Guy in West Hollywood. Move onto Mamas Shelter and then back downtown to Elevate Lounge for rooftop vibes where you can see the whole city. The next coming days we’ll do things on the list like see a concert/Laker game at Staples Center, check out some dope art at The Broad museum, and go to a Dodger baseball game. Also, we can’t forget to stay active on a hike up Echo Mountain, (part of the LA National Forest).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My fam! Blood or not you know who you are and I got nothing but love for you.
