Meet Nancy Sarkissian | Event Decorator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Sarkissian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
What many people outside of this industry don’t realize is just how much time and effort it takes to create a stunning event decor. From the hours spent preparing for the event—designing, sourcing materials, and organizing logistics—to the meticulous setup and execution on the day of, every detail requires careful attention. After the event, we invest additional time disassembling, picking up rentals, and ensuring everything is transported back safely. But it doesn’t stop there; the process of reorganizing and restocking our storage space is equally time-intensive. Most importantly, this work often means dedicating valuable time to your event that we could otherwise spend with our own families and children—a sacrifice we gladly make to ensure your special moments are unforgettable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Prior to starting my own business, ShineMyEvent, I worked as an office manager at an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon’s office. However, after getting married and having my three children, I stepped away from the workforce. During this time, I found joy in creating décor for my own children’s birthdays and baptisms, which made me realize my true passion for event decoration. This love for bringing celebrations to life ultimately inspired me to launch ShineMyEvent, turning my creativity into a business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends know that I have a deep love for the perfect balance of elegance and simplicity in life. I enjoy the luxury of staying at a beautiful hotel and dining at a nice restaurant, yet I also appreciate the quieter, more relaxed moments—like taking a peaceful walk on the beach, sipping a glass of wine while admiring a stunning ocean or city view, and simply soaking in the beauty around me.
I would take my friend to Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage for a couple of days to bask in the sun and enjoy some quality time in peace.
Would definitely take them to Rodeo Drive for a little shopping, followed by an indulgent dinner at Steak 48. To add a touch of Hollywood magic, I’d take them to Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank for a behind-the-scenes experience.
A spontaneous detour to a cozy bookstore or a hidden gem of a dessert shop would be just as enjoyable as a lavish night out. For me, it’s all about embracing the finer things while keeping it low-key and meaningful.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my husband Sargis for being so patient with me and taking such good care of our 3 kids while I am busy working on the weekends. My sister Nadine Sarkissian and my best friend Houry Hassarjian for being a huge part of ShineMyEvent. Their dedication is commendable!
