We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalia Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalia, what do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to our team at Small Wonder Digital. Each team member is passionate and committed to quality work for our clients. Our purpose is to take a great idea and develop it into a reality. We pride ourselves on ideation, creativity, effectiveness and execution. We help create transformative experiences that shape modern culture. I also attribute my success to hard work, discipline and surrounding myself with people who are smarter than me.
Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am proud of what we have accomplished so far with Small Wonder Digital. We started with only two employees (including myself) and have grown to almost forty today. Small Wonder Digital was founded me, a Latin woman and operated by a minority development and engineering team.
We have successfully developed and delivered many valuable products which garnered significant media attention. I am working on a number of projects, one of which will solve some of the societal challenges we are currently facing today. Specifically, inclusion of females and minorities across several industries. Small Wonder Digital started as a side hustle I was doing during my full-time job. Because I knew how to develop websites, several of my friends would often ask me to help them build their blogs and/or social media accounts.
One thing led to the next and approximately a year later, I quit my job in order to pursue what I had become very passionate about. I accepted the challenge and risk of starting my own digital agency. Starting and successfully growing your own business isn’t easy.
I believe you have to be wired differently in order to face and overcome the obstacles that come your way as your business grows. With any business, there are challenges to work through such as finding talent, making payroll, client acquisition, quality control and ensuring your client is satisfied with your work. There are so many variables that comes along with owning a business. Discipline, execution, innovation and leadership play a big role in our business success.
Small Wonder Digital is a diverse group of talented engineers and creative thinkers who work together to improve, simplify and ultimately bring a client’s vision into a reality.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would probably start by taking them hiking at Franklin Canyon, followed by breakfast at Urth Cafe for matcha tea pancakes or the restaurant at Fred Segal. Next we would either go to Santa Monica or Venice Beach for lunch and a bike ride followed by a sunset dinner in Malibu either at Soho House or Geoffrey’s. If my friend wants more of a fun, social vibe we would go to Delilah’s or Sunset Tower. There’s so many places to go in LA it really all depends on your mood and traffic since everything can take much longer then expected. If I want a more relaxing day, I would go to Manhattan Beach. For a more cultural experience, I would go to downtown LA for the galleries and shops.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people deserve credit, I would say Andrew Weissman, Sagen Albert, David Zapata and Sergio Lopez.
