We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate Golden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nate, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
As a model, the end goal would be being able to walk major fashion shows, to work with top tier fashion brands and to be able to represent the people who look like me, who think like me, or the kids that are from the third world countries with big dreams like me. I want to be that one guy that breaks down boundaries and challenges the “beauty standard”. Eventually if I can tell my stories through music and films, that’d be a dream comes true. If my works in the past, now, and future can inspire people, and somehow make an impact in the community in the positive way, that would be freaking dope.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love telling stories through visual arts. When I model I tend to bring out the inner confidence, the kind of confidence that I have gained over time, and the kind of confidence that I wish I had when I was younger. I don’t want my audience to idolize me or think of me as some Instagram guy, because I’m just like everybody else. If I can achieve something, then everybody can do the same or more. Every time I do a photoshoot or work on a project with other models, I always think of how can we inspire people, how do we make people realize that they can do this too. The question that I get asked the most is “how do i start modeling?” and these are from the most beautiful people I’ve seen in my life. They don’t know how beautiful they are, and I feel like it’s my job to make them realize that. And that’s a pretty dope job to have.

I’m nowhere near where I want to be in my career yet, but I’m super grateful for what I have right now. But if you look back from where I started, I’ve come pretty far. From a little boy living in Vietnam, to live and do what I love in Los Angeles. To get to where I am today it wasn’t easy at all, there were times when I was completely broke, no cars, no place to live and had to live at my friends places. There were times where I took any jobs I could find to make money to survive. Panic attacks and anxiety tried to bring me down. But there wasn’t a day where I thought I could give up. Giving up was never an option. I know there will be more challenges and obstacles coming my way but if there’s anything that I’ve learned from the past, it would be always work hard, work smart, and believe in yourself. No-one’s in my family believed that i could make a name for myself in Los Angeles, and now I’ve successfully built a brand and working as a model/actor in this competitive city. Watch out Hollywood, because Nate Golden is coming! 😉

I want everybody that to dream big, no matter what you look like, where you from, or what your gender or sexual preference is. If you believe in yourself, and work hard towards your dreams, there is absolutely no way to fail; and I will continue to do everything I can to prove that. Hopefully one day, the story of a little boy from a third world country who’s always underestimated; who’s always told he could never make it in Hollywood proves everybody wrong will be told, and will inspire people to follow their dreams.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we’d start with the heart of Los Angeles, Downtown LA. Get brunch at Perch, drive around downtown then head towards Hollywood Blvd, let my friend see what’s like to be a tourist in the city on the first day. The next day we’ll head to the Grove and Melrose to do some shopping, then visit Santa Monica, have dinner at the Lobster and hang out at the Bungalow.

Next stop, Malibu. This is my dream city, everything is so beautiful there. We’d take a break from the busy streets and buildings, I’d take my friend to a private beach in Malibu and soak in that sun light, enjoy that fresh air then check out my favorite restaurant Paradise Cove Cafe.

There are so many places to have fun in this city, West Hollywood is always popping, people are always down to have fun, and always so loving. Asian foods are the best down in the Orange County.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my mentor Mr. Steve Needleman, a very successful and respected businessman in Los Angeles. And the most important woman in my life, my mother, who has been sacrificing so much for me and my family.
