We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathalie Yves Gaulthier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathalie Yves, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe and hope that the most important factor behind the success of le PeTiT CiRqUe has been two things: 1) surrounding myself with good, kind and loyal people. A solid team.
2) Taking risks and HARD WORK, sacrifices, dedication and staying focused.
The most important is probably having a solid team around you however!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I created Le PeTiT CiRqUe almost 10 years ago from my circus school I had launched in 1996. Since I have always had an “eye for talent” and after having found and launched several Hollywood stars after launching my talent agencies in Montreal , Toronto, Vancouver and Beverly Hills at the age of 14. I have represented stars like Ryan Gosling, Elisha Cuthbert, Emily Hampshire on Schitt’s Creek, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Blanchard, AJ Cook star of Criminal Minds, Jay Baruchel etc.
I knew that if I created a family entertainment production company, I could find some of the greatest young talents in the world. It stared with just circus kids sand teens , and today, we have world champion martial artists, skateboarders, singers, magicians, musicians and family acts etc.
It was not an easy sell as bookers feared “kids” would not be as good as adults and more trouble than it was worth.
I presented ONLY the finest young talents, never posted any videos that were mediocre, and kept stage parents away.
No matter how gifted a child was, if a parent was not a team player and difficult, we released the artist, immediately.
I am most proud of us headlining the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. It was a hard sell as they already had John Legend, Zara Larson, Sigrid and Lukas Graham. We were unknowns. But after much convincing and sending numerous videos to Warner Brothers Int’l , I was super excited when the email came and said they were booking Le PeTiT CiRqUe in a full 7 minute headlining spot on the Nobel Peace Prize stage as the first Young Talent At in the 24 year history of the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. We flew to Norway with Le PeTiT CiRqUe artists from all across the USA, Canada and Australia after rehearsing via Zoom for 2 weeks , then we all met up in a dance studio in Oslo to rehearse all together , just 2 days before the big show. Some of the kids had never even met before!
2 days later, we headlined the Nobel stage and were enthusiastically crowned with a 10,000 person standing ovation which included the Prince and Princess of Norway and a request to meet them after the show.
It has NOT been easy getting here.
Three times in my career I have had wealthy parents feel they can do what I do and do it better. (with the ultimate goal of making their own child, the star) This is not only painful as I am very attached emotionally to my young artists , but it created a lot of stress, loss of some clients, unneccessary rumors etc and I even lost my studio after one mother opened up down the street.
But to this day, not one has ever achieved the success of Le PeTiT CiRqUe.
I overcame these challenges by SAYING NOTHING and just kept moving forward and delivering unmatched productions, quality acts, well mannered young artists and over delivering to my clients.
Eventually, we retained a stellar reputation and 2 of these “mom businesses” have closed.
I have learned the most important things in business is kindness and always negotiate with a smile!!! Early delivery, high quality, easy to work with and get to know everyone everywhere. It is all about who you KNOW really. I tell my young artists all the time: always make sure you keep making connections and nurture them because it’s a small world really and people hire who they KNOW and trust.
I want the world to know that Le PeTiT CiRqUe has brought so much beauty to the world, and continues to do so with its mystical and enchanting cirque-musicals. We are one of the only professional youth entertainment companies in the world that has helped raise over 6.3 million to aid global charities. Also, due to our artists international humanitarian work, we have garnered 14 full-ride college scholarships and Dean scholarships (Berkeley, UCLA, Brown’s etc) for some of our graduating artists which opt to go to college as opposed to following a cirque career. I am one proud mama!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am from Montreal, so I lays like to take my friends to the ocean on. My boat to play with the dolphins in at Dana Point Harbor! Of course tons of paddle boarding, then some good ol’ tacos at CHIHUAHUAS!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think a lot of my success has to do with my parents who consistently taught me that I could be anything and that hard work would always result in something. As an adult, my wife, Shelly Fitzpatrick, has been a massive supporter and teacher!
