Meet Nechelle Kennedy | Entrepreneur and Life Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nechelle Kennedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nechelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I believe in ownership and sometimes say I’m unemployable, lol. I enjoy the freedom of setting my own schedule to my life and not having a cap of the potential financial growth I can have. When I relocated to Los Angeles I didn’t want to pursue being a Real Estate Agent, as I was back in Philadelphia, because I didn’t know the market out here but wanted to remain in the real estate industry. I found employment as a site controller/junior project manager for custom new construction in Beverly Hills and found myself feeling restricted in life because of the work hours. I knew I wanted to stay in the real estate industry and started researching becoming a home inspector since I had an aligning background with its qualifications, and I knew it was a financially lucrative industry. It was a challenging road to obtain the necessary certifications, which made it that much more rewarding when I had done so. For personal reasons I was forced to open my own business versus working for an already established home inspection company. I believe everything happens for a reason and am grateful I was able to open my own home inspection company which I look forward to expanding into different markets.

What should our readers know about your business?
I would want the readers to know that regardless of race or gender, my company not only provides diligent and detailed reports with state-of-the-art tools, we also have a wealth of knowledge with the home buying and selling process for both owner occupancy and investment deals. Going above and beyond for our clients never feels like we’re going out of our way, it’s second nature. It has not been easy breaking into an industry where many don’t look like me in a new market that I just moved to only 4 years ago. I am one of very few black women owned home inspection companies in the industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the beach and my favorite restaurant is George Greek Café in Long Beach. I would take them to Catch to see how overhyped it is, just kidding, not really. I would take them to do some Hot Yoga and cycling on the beach and of course we would hike at Runyon Canyon and visit the Hollywood sign. I would take them to a hilltop I know to overlook the city on Mulholland Drive. There are also a few restaurants that overlook the water I would take them to in Malibu and Redondo Beach. If we were to party it would be down Huntington Beach at some of the local bars, I’m not really a fan of the night clubs out here except for Crazy Girls, lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My son, TJ. He has been my biggest inspiration and motivation. He too relocated with no family or friends to Orlando for college. We have face some of the struggles being in foreign lands, but he is now thriving and has made a name for himself in their music scene as he is an artist and audio engineer. He reminds me everyday that hard work and discipline will get you through the doors that God has opened for you.
