We had the good fortune of connecting with Nelcie Souffrant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nelcie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking risks is necessary! I moved over 3,000 miles away from my family. My family lives in New York and I am here in Los Angeles. I came across the country and stayed with friends with just a few dollars and my dog was stolen from me. Taking these risks opened up the opportunities for me to pursue the dreams that you see today as an actress.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say I am an artist, not just an actor. I write as well. I’ve directed a short film that has gone to over 12 film festivals. I’ve received awards for Best Young Filmmaker, Best Inspirational Short. I was nominated at Urban World, one of the largest film festivals. I am extremely excited about the feature film that I wrote called The Small Fish of New York, which ill be starring in it. I’m excited about it because it is my baby – it is the second feature that I wrote. It’s about finding yourself and your sexuality.

A lot of training, taking a leap of faith, and sometimes not being complacent with your environment. Sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone and go out there and chase your dreams. Whether your dreams are acting, sports, or even medical school. Sometimes the best medical school may not be where you are. Sometimes you have to leave and explore. Make yourself uncomfortable to be comfortable

Let me tell you. It wasn’t easy. I’m over 3,000 miles away from my family. My mother, father, brother, and I were very close. I came across the country and stayed with friends who knew what I was going through. I was depressed because my dog was stolen from me. My dog was like my child. I only had a couple of dollars. I knew had the friendship foundation. My friends were like my family. I had that to keep me grounded.

We all have a story, we all grow from things of our past, we all make mistakes. And I am an example of that. I am human. I make human error. I’m not a robot. I’m not perfect. I am ok with being perfectly imperfect. To know me is to love me, and to love me is to know me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After I pick them up from the airport, I would take them to the Nipsey Mural and the marathon clothing store. Then we have to come to my house and have to see my dogs. Next, we are heading to Melrose, We will go thrift shopping. I was vegan for a few years so I will take them to Crossroads off Melrose for lunch. I always want people to experience Vegan Cruisine. Then we have to do Beverly Hills, After Beverly Hills, we will head to Santa Monica for the beautiful view and aesthetics. Oh and the beautiful water. We are going to check out Nobu Malibu. Since Drake has rapped about Nobu Malibu, everybody wants to experience it so I have to take them there And we have to taste the Waygu and Lobster tacos. And of course pair it with a Passion Fruit Martini. In West Hollywood, we going to do Le Petit Bistro on Sunset! We may do a quick visit to the Waldorf Astoria. You get a nice view of the hills and the mountains. And it’s perfect for photos. We can do bowling at Lucky Strike. I love the scooters and Venus Beach. Then we can go to the Seven Grand downtown. I love the aesthetics it gives me a very old speakeasy feel. And of course, I always have to introduce them to my other LA friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My upbringing; growing up seeing things around me in a predominantly black neighborhood and predominantly white neighborhood, and spending the summer months in Haiti are all experiences that shaped me, my character, and my drive. I like to look at it as every experience and person in my life has shaped me. Whether I said hello and spoke to someone for 5 minutes or whether they were in my life from the beginning. Every one of those individuals and experiences deserves credit and recognition in my story. Especially my family and friends.
