We had the good fortune of connecting with Nelo Phiri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nelo, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is God. God is the reason I maintain faith in the ability to exceed my possibilities. The success of my brand is based on self awareness. I don’t do it for the gram, or yearn for a like or a share. I do, what I do for the purpose of instilling fundamental values and to journal our growth, including my own.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently, I am a Tennis Professional at Lifetime and the United States Tennis Association. I am most proud of these partnerships because they allow me to live in my purpose with structure and support. I am most excited about the partnership I have built with New York Junior Tennis & Learning, where I get to implement my Fearless Growth Curriculum as a 1 year Life Skills program for forty students.
Fearless Growth LLC is a business founded in 2019, fostering personal development through sport and education.
Like most entrepreneurs, I have faced challenges in developing my digital presence, but I have learned that my online presence will grow as I grow.
I want the world to know that our future matters, and in order for us to grow in a more positive direction we must become fearlessly in love with setting core values that govern our growth.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them on what I call an Africa in America tour. Of course we would start with a delicious meal by the water for lunch, at The Cradle NYC, where West African food is served with love. Then we would head over to Nkumu’s Congolese dance class in Harlem to work off the jollof rice. While we’re in Harlem, we would visit Ponty Bistro, a senegalese restaurant that aims to provide quality cuisines with a rich African atmosphere. Within that week, I would also attend meetings at the Africa Center, where our continent comes to revitalize.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a special shout out to everyone that has crossed my path. I am grateful for everyone’s role in creating positive spaces for my success. Many seeds were planted to grow the mindset and over all person that I am today. It all started with my Uncle Kela’s willingness to develop my game of tennis, the Coaches that were committed to seeing me win, and Parents that encouraged and guided me. Brothers, that support my initiatives and care about my well-being, and my Grandfather, that paved the way through sport and education and emphasized a wise attitude towards life.
