We had the good fortune of connecting with Neon Nash and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Neon, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always had big dreams about being a singer. Ever since I was a little kid I would perform songs for my family even just at home in our living room. I’ve always admired singers on stage that are able to put on amazing performances with their own music and aspired to achieve that for myself as well. Moving to LA to pursue those dreams was a big step I took for myself and I’ve overcome a lot to get here. But I’m very proud of how all of my efforts are paying off.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out as sort of a “nerdcore” artist, since I focus the themes of my songs to the anime that I like. And although I think anime rap and anime themed music is becoming a little bit more known across social media, it’s still pretty niche. And I think that’s cool. I like being part of a community that nerds out together and can hype each other up since so many of us can relate to the feeling of being bullied for liking anime as kids. I would really like to see myself break out into the mainstream and continue to share my story in ways that others can relate to and find inspiring.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For an anime fan visiting LA, Little Tokyo is an absolute must. Not only does Little Tokyo have some of the best food ever, there are tons of shops to check out that have the best anime merch. Some of my favorite places in LIttle Tokyo are Orochon for the ramen, Kinokuniya for the manga and Marukai Market for the snacks. I definitely have too many favorite stores to choose from for merch, they’re all so good.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The incredible team I have behind my successes are people I definitely couldn’t do this without. The producer behind many of my songs is the insanely talented King80 Industries. He’s a goldmine for real.
The mixing engineer I do most of my recording with is Ryan Hartnett. He’s super talented at what he does and always makes my songs sound a billion times better.
And of course my partner Oliver Rogue is my constant source of motivation. He’s helped me write and concept all of my songs and he also does all of my photography and album covers.
