We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Dinero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Over time, I’ve learned the importance of balancing my work and life for my overall well-being. My twin nephews have been my anchor, helping me slow down and be more present in the moment. Balance is an extension of my faith, which is an essential part of who I am and what I do. I’ve learned that when I’m balanced in spirit, mind, and body, it prevents burnout, reduces stress, and boosts my productivity. Family and friends are everything to me, so balance helps me build stronger relationships and allows me to live a happier and more sustainable life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am thrilled to share more about my art and what sets me apart. My journey has been a blend of passion, resilience, and unwavering support from my community.

My art is distinguished by my lyrical poise and advocacy, marked by a blend of edginess, sophistication, and excellence. I have had the privilege of performing on various local and regional stages and serving as a radio personality on WNSB Hot 91.1 at Norfolk State University. My music has garnered over 85,000 views on YouTube and has been featured on popular DMV radio stations like 93.9 WKYS and WPGC 95.5.

In 2022, I was a featured artist on DMV’s “Great Day Washington” (DMV Sound Check) and made history performing at the first anniversary of the Smithsonian Anthology of Hip Hop and Rap at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. My performances at the Kennedy Center, where I advocated for Women in Hip-Hop as a panelist, and my induction into the prestigious 2023 Recording Academy New Member Class, are milestones I am incredibly proud of.

My journey was not easy. Like many artists, I faced numerous challenges, from breaking into a competitive industry to finding my unique voice and audience. However, I overcame these challenges with Faith, perseverance, continuous self-improvement, and the unwavering support of my tribe—my family, friends, and mentors. Their belief in me kept me going even during the toughest times.

Throughout my journey, I have learned the importance of authenticity, persistence, and community. Staying true to my unique style and message has been crucial. I also learned that setbacks are part of the process, and every challenge is an opportunity to grow stronger and more resilient.

I want the world to know that my art is not just about music; it’s about advocacy and making a difference. As a brand ambassador for the nonprofit Free Flow Movement, which addresses the global impacts of menstrual hygiene management, I aim to use my platform to support important causes and inspire change.

My story is one of defying easy categorization and transcending conventional boundaries. I am committed to showcasing my raw talent and unique voice while remaining dedicated to excellence and advocacy. My journey has firmly established me as an authentic trailblazer, and I am excited to continue sharing my art with the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Northern Virginia, so first, I would take them to one of my favorite Thai spots in the area for amazing street noodles if they’re open to it or a cool rooftop venue for drinks and great aesthetics. It’s summertime in the DMV, so hitting up the Wharf, U Street, museums, church, festivals, and more in DC is always a great time! Then, I would take them to Virginia Beach so they could experience another side of Virginia.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I have to give glory to GOD! I would not have made it this far without the gifts He’s given me, along with His guidance and protection. Second, I want to give credit to my tribe (my mom, sister, and stepfather), friends, and family who continue to believe in me, help me, and push me even when It is hard. Third, I want to thank my producers and engineers who helped cultivate my style and sound in the most original ways. Last but not least, to everyone who truly supports what I do and how I do it,
I appreciate all of you!
