Meet Nick Bertocchini | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Bertocchini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Stockton, California. My journey into photography started in an unexpected way – just before deploying to Afghanistan while in the Marine Corps, I picked up an ugly little orange colored “point-and-shoot” camera. That small decision ended up sparking a passion that stayed with me. After my time in the Marine Corps, I became a police officer, but a back injury ended that career earlier than expected. That moment of loss turned into a new beginning, giving me the space to pursue photography more intentionally.
I’m now a full-time wedding photographer, and I specialize in Catholic weddings. My wife and I are devoutly Catholic and proud parents to two beautiful daughters. Together, we’ve built a brand that reflects our faith and values, and we’re blessed to photograph many Catholic weddings. I love the fast-paced energy of a wedding day, the reverence of the liturgy, and the deep sense of purpose that comes with capturing the sacred and joyful moments of a couple’s sacramental journey. My background in the military and law enforcement taught me how to stay calm under pressure, be attentive to detail, and work with integrity, skills that serve me well in every wedding I shoot.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our photography style is bold, emotional, and rooted in storytelling but what truly sets us apart is the experience we create for our couples. We’re fun, relatable, and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We work hard, communicate clearly, and bring a calming presence to even the most fast-paced wedding days. From the moment a couple books with us, we’re there to support them every step of the way, not just as photographers, but as part of their team- and by the end of their day- friends!
We specialize in Catholic weddings, and that gives our work a deeper layer of purpose. We understand the sacredness of the Sacrament, the significance of each tradition, and how to respectfully capture those powerful moments during the Mass. Our faith is at the heart of everything we do, and we treat each wedding not just as a celebration, but as a holy and joyful beginning to a couple’s vocation.
Getting to this point definitely wasn’t easy. Starting a business after a back injury ended my law enforcement career was a humbling experience. I had to relearn my identity, rebuild from scratch, and work hard to build trust in a new field. Every challenge forced me to grow, not just as a photographer, but as a person. I’ve learned that consistency beats perfection, that humility builds connection, and that putting people first always pays off.
What I want people to know about our brand is this: we care. We care about your story, your joy, your faith, your family. We’re not just here to take pretty pictures (although we do!), we’re here to honor your love and capture images that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’re definitely beach people – there’s just something about the sound of the waves and the sand between your toes that makes you feel instantly at home. So if our best friends were visiting for a week, we’d head straight to Santa Cruz. That’s our go-to spot to unwind, and we think it’s one of California’s best-kept gems.
If they had their kids with them, we’d definitely spend a day at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk…there’s nothing like watching the kids light up on the rides while we grab a chocolate dipped ice cream and just take it all in. We’d spend the rest of the trip doing what we love most: slowing down and soaking up the beach life. Walks on the shore, catching the sunset, maybe tossing a football or just lounging with some good music and great conversation.
For dinner, we’d keep it simple and delicious…either a cozy Italian spot with a glass of wine or a local Mexican restaurant with fresh chips, guac, and margaritas. We’re not about a packed itinerary. We’re all about being present, laughing a lot, and making memories. That’s our kind of perfect.
At the end of the day, we believe life is best when it’s shared with good people in beautiful places… and the beach is where we all feel the most like ourselves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, all glory goes to Jesus Christ. Everything I have – my family, my business, my healing, my purpose – flows from His grace. I wouldn’t be where I am today without God’s constant presence and guidance.
I owe so much to my wife, who has been my greatest support through every chapter, from my time as a police officer to my career-ending injury, to building our photography business together. She’s my teammate in life and in business. Our two daughters inspire me daily and remind me what all of this is really for.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my parents, our extended family, and my in-laws. As Italian Americans, family means everything to us and we’ve been surrounded by people who have shown us what real, sacrificial love looks like in marriage. Watching their example has deeply shaped the way we approach our work and our own vocation as a married couple. Every Catholic wedding we shoot is a reminder of the beauty and strength of a Christ-centered marriage, something we’ve seen modeled throughout our lives.
I also want to recognize our local Catholic community for the spiritual formation and support they’ve given us.
This journey has never been just about me. Instead, it’s a reflection of the people, faith, and family who’ve shaped me.
