We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Fiore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work/Life Balance is something I work on every day! This balance is especially difficult when YOU are essentially your brand, and it’s definitely been a struggle. I am used to working for myself and being available to customers pretty much any hour of the day. I have realized this is not the healthiest way to live and have healthy relationships. We all need time to just be…to relax, read a book, watch television, and just shut our brain off from work for a while. For some of us this is a weekend away on vacation and for some of us this is simply spending 20 away from our phone. It’s all okay. You just have to find what works for you.

I try to focus on work between 10am and 6pm…most days. Some days get away from me and I end up working from 6pm to midnight. As long as I don’t make this a habit, I’m okay! I have realized over the years that my job is not a strict 9-5 (I tried to stick to that for a while and it just didn’t work). I do need time during the day to take care of myself and get away from work for a bit. Sometimes that means my lunch goes a little long or I take part of the day off and go to Disneyland haha!

Giving yourself time away from work doesn’t mean you are neglecting your work. You have to be in good spirits in order for your work to be successful. Trust me – it shows! So, remember, everyone’s balance is different. Do what is right for you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The title Roller Skating Coach & Choreographer throws people for a loop a little bit! Yes, I am a real professional roller skater – it’s a real thing! I grew up roller skating and competing through my entire childhood. Before I retired from competition to begin coaching, I won 4 World Championships for the United States. Skating allowed me to travel to multiple countries, meet truly amazing people, and perform in front of thousands. Before 2020, I moved my business online and started a YouTube channel. I created over 90 tutorials for people learning to skate. I then created paid courses and memberships with even more in-depth information. I now teach thousands of people all over the World each week on my website: ThatNicoleFiore.com

Teaching roller skating online has been the best experience of my life. Difficult? Of course. Rewarding? Absolutely! I truly love what I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Southern California our options are endless! I love Disneyland and skating at the beach, so those two are a must! We need great coffee at the beginning of each day and a great meal at the end, obviously! So, we would start each day by heading to a specialty coffee shop – a different one each day because we must find the best vanilla latte in town. Then we would need to find the best burgers, pizza, and ice cream. And we can’t forget the best skating spots like the Venice Beach Skate Plaza. Everything in between can be a random adventure – no need for plans!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Dad has always been my hero. By the time I was 18 I was his business partner in a few different businesses of his. He taught me to push to be the best I could be every day, to not get hung up on what happened yesterday, celebrate the small stuff, and not take myself too seriously. I am forever grateful!
