We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
How important the social part of social media is to an account’s success on any given platform. Most people treat social media like traditional media. They set it and forget it. Putting their content out and expecting leads to come in. This strategy is not what these platforms are built for. They have been created for people to connect with one another and if you are taking advantage of this interaction and relationship building, you are missing out big time. It is important to see social m media in a more holistic sense. It is not a marketing strategy in and of itself it is a piece of a larger strategy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an agency that focuses on full service, done for you, social media. With that, we have a heavy focus on growing an audience organically by using the platforms to build relationships through interaction and engagement. I am most proud of being in business for 6 years and continuing to grow.

I started as a chocolatier in 2005. I spent 10 years owning and marketing my own small chocolate and ice cream shops on Cape Cod. During this time people were consistently asking me “How do you send all those great emails?” or “I always see you on Facebook/Instagram, teach me.”

Once I had my three sons, I decided to switch direction, get back to my roots, and focus on marketing. Having been a small business owner for so many years I have a passion for helping smaller businesses and especially nonprofits get their products, services, and their message, out into the world.

It was tough to grow my business and be a stay-at-home mom. But through consistency, I was able to build little by little. It took me longer than I wanted to get where I am today but that was a lesson I had to learn in patience. Not everything has to happen at once and it is probably better if it doesn’t. I don’t think I could have handled the growth I wanted at first and I need to learn more about running a business before I was ready to grow further.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in a tourist destinate on Cape Cod so there is a lot to choose from. We would most likely hit the beach a few times, kayaking is a must. We would also do some main street shopping in Chatham and Provincetown and probably eat at The Lobster Pot. An iconic waterfront, commercial street seafood restaurant. A fishing charter would also be a fun way to spend the day out on the water.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband for supporting me in my entrepreneurial journey.
