We had the good fortune of connecting with Ninamarie Jeffrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ninamarie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process went something like: I’ve had five different jobs and the same pattern keeps playing out. Eventually I dread going to them and feeling drained of creativity and energy for the things I actually want to be doing/creating. Also a question –what do I want out of life? And the conclusion! Let me create a career that supports who I am and the life I want because…. the internet! The more I read and speak with others about being intentional I understand that work is an exchange of life force (time/energy) for money, and therefor I want to be paid well for it. I couldn’t believe that working jobs leaving me feeling constantly spiritually drained, frustrated, undervalued, and without flexibility to enjoy the rest of life was IT. Certainly not in the world of abundance I found myself working in every day. At the last company I worked for, I was a part of marketing efforts leading to sales of 5-15 million dollar vacation homes at a luxury residential community. I quickly noticed a pattern – all the clients were entrepreneurs, and all the miserable employees were not. I understood that the solution to my unhappiness was presence, innovation and risk-taking, but was terrified of entrepreneurship. As a multi-passionate person, I found that I lacked focus and direction for one “clear” path. I decided that my path would involve my multi passions. This led to going out on my own full-time with two businesses. One as a solo singer/musician and the other offering digital marketing and web design services. Already performing as a professional musician, I launched my second business during the height of lockdown and COVID, which had at that point canceled most of my expected income from the gig economy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work/music is heart and spirit informed. I believe we are here for important lessons and to make meaningful contributions. These contributions may mostly involve standing in our own truths and sharing that with the world. I hope to create businesses and music that reflect that more and more fully. These beliefs have led me to a life full of reflection and learning as I disentangle who I am from what others expect me to be. I continue to separate my perspective, goals and dreams from my own limiting beliefs and the limits inherited from others. There are no absolutes, only possibilities and the path of opening your mind and heart to them. Nature and life are constant teachers of this. I hope to be present for the beautiful journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh no! I’m afraid I don’t know LA at all! I can make an amazing itinerary for the BI of Hawai’i though 🙂
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
That’s amazing! As it should be. My shoutout goes to a number of amazing sources of support, mentorship and inspiration. To my number one supporter, and incredible life partner Leo Bell, who always manages to see and affirm the best version of me, while grounding and holding me tenderly. To Moanalani Jeffrey for her patient, passionate mentorship and support over the years, leading me out of my fears and into my confidence, boldly. To Micky Tal, for his generous guidance and support in making my creative passions and business endeavors financially successful. To my cherished siblings, parents and other ‘ohana, blood and hanai (adopted), for all the love and support. To Kiana Keali’iholokahiki and Maren Duda for supporting and dreaming with me always. Game changing books: Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Also, Deepak Chopra’s The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire. Finally and ultimately, to the Universe and all my angels for the many, many blessings.
