We had the good fortune of connecting with Nora Isabel Cross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nora Isabel, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
There’s a quote by Rumi about resilience and learning from past experiences: “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” This helps me to remember that whatever difficulty I’ve faced has not been in vain: I’ve felt pain, I’ve cried, questioned myself, and left places and people, but mostly (hopefully) learned from it all. The wound opens us, and our vulnerability evolves us.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud to be someone always eager to learn and improve. And I’m actually excited about being uncertain of the future– I don’t fear for my survival, and I believe extraordinary things can happen. I’m here for the ride. Though I emigrated, I used to dream of developing a career in my home country. I found love even though I didn’t think it would happen. I’m a Spiritual coach after my earlier years as an atheist.
Professionally I’m not quite where I want to be, but that has also been a lesson for my ego. I’ve learned that my value doesn’t depend on my work. If (when) I succeed, my priorities will remain conscious exploration and personal transformation. I’d like those to be part of my brand.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I’d make sure to share all my favorite vegan spots, starting with a stop at Kevin Hart’s Vegan Restaurant in Monrovia. I’d take my friend hiking at Brand Park after enjoying its wonderful art library. Later after a mandatory stop at Griffith Park and its Observatory, we would spend a day downtown strolling LACMA and grabbing some nearby Ethiopian food. The next day we’d drive out to Ojai, walk and shop downtown, and visit a meditation center. On the way back we’d follow the coast and spend some time at the beach in Malibu. It would be an exhausting wonderful time!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to my husband, Michael Anthony Cross. Our fourth anniversary is coming up soon., and I’m excited to keep walking through life with him by my side. Since we met he has given me unconditional love and support, at both a personal and professional level. My Shoutout covers the late nights helping me edit films, early mornings preparing the studio to record my auditions before he goes to work, and so much more. We want to see each other flourish and achieve our dreams.
