We had the good fortune of connecting with Norma D. Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Norma D., what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be that I left civil no. 13,903 behind for all children born out of wedlock are recognized as legitimate, regardless of their parent’s character or married status, as long as true paternity is established at birth.

I want people to remember that it was difficult living up to such a high standard when all I wanted was for my father to be around to love me longer than four years and 11 months before his passing.

I want my book to show my grandsons to know that they can accomplish anything with hard work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Words are my passion for creating stories that need to be used for my screenplays to hit the nerves of diverse audiences who need the message. When I first became an empty nester when both children went off to college, I returned to Capital Community College, under the GI Bill. When I enrolled in the Communication Media Studies program in 2006, my journey began when I produced my documentary, The Ultimate Love Child: Norma D. Davis. I proceeded to write screenplays, public service announcements, and commercials independently. I’ve won several Honolulu Film Festival awards for writing and directing. My journey never stopped and then I went on to Executive produced, wrote, produced, and directed my first Independent short film Handle Your Business starring Kene Holliday, from the television show Matlock. (IMDb)When I returned to New York, I began to write my memoir during COVID-19. I had this experience of enlisting in the US Army at the age of nineteen and I needed to get it out of my soul to heal completely even through mental therapy and purging. When I finally self-published my memoir Surviving the Military: A Memoir in 2022, I felt relief. I then went on to write the screenplay for the memoir. During my journey,y I’ve learned to recharge and start again. I want the world to know that “to be or not to be is the question.” Through marriage, divorces, helping the seniors and polio-surviving mother that took on the Connecticut US Supreme Court, raising two career-oriented adult children, and now a grandmother…I’m still surviving and smiling through all the love, hurt, and pain endured.

During COVID-19 I wrote my memoir, Surviving the Military to discuss the assault I endured at the hands of another soldier (male) with the help of a female soldier and the US Army covered it up. I wanted my story to be told to young adults if they decided to enlist. I want them to look at the Military as a place to learn and not to fraternize with male or female soldiers.
