Meet Nova Baggerly | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nova Baggerly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nova, what are you inspired by?
My daily inspiration comes from nature and the patterns found throughout. The beauty of the waves sparkling in the sun really inspires me to create art that personifies that mystical feeling I get when I observe them. When looking at the Fibonacci sequence and how it plays a part in the way a spiral is formed in a conch shell, an unexplainable wonder of nature is expressed. I’d like to do more future artwork revolving around the ocean and the different shells found within it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Digital art was fairly challenging because it was tricky to learn the program used to create it. However, once I was comfortable with these programs, it was a game changer. It’s amazing how many effects can be created with the layers and the huge range of colors that can be selected from. It was really amazing to transition from just doing traditional pieces to making digital artwork that could also be turned into an animation. Using the tutorials on youtube was beneficial to learning ways to make different parts of my art have glowing effects. A majority of my works have subjects in very bright, vibrant colors on a dark background. That can be seen in my piece titled, “Neon Sea,” with a glowing green fish swimming underwater. I’m exploring that as my signature style but I don’t want to limit my art to just that look. I’m most proud of my most recent album artwork for the hit single, “Sarah Tonin” created for the band ASE. The piece features a brain conjoined with a heart. There were many stages to turn it into what it is now and I’m so happy with the outcome. The heart has a very realistic quality to it and the last minute edition of the array of colors around the brain really brings it to life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them a good time, I would take them to Jenkinsons Boardwalk in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. At Jenkinsons there are many boardwalk games, amusement park rides, and an aquarium!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my grandmother, Vera. My fondest memories are of when she showed me how to use oil paints and I can recall finding a passion to do art from gazing at her paintings of tigers. She does incredible works of art with watercolor and she’s showed me how to use other mediums like oil pastels and charcoals.
