Meet Nzuri Soul | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nzuri Soul and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nzuri, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued music because it was always who I was. From my earliest memory I was singing every song I could hear. As I got older music became my out let, a release and where I felt most myself. After the loss of my husband music brought me back to life and I want to do that and bring the healing to others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a soul-rock and jazz artist from Oakland, CA. I started my performance career 8 years ago with my debut album ” LOVE STORY XIX” I was born in Jasper, TX and lived there until I was 13 years old. You can hear the gospel/country roots in my music today. Mostly in my songs “No Blues” & “Vibe”. I am most proud that out of 4 albums I have written all but one of the songs that represent me. I love that when you hear my music you are hearing me, my heart, my feelings. I am open to working with other artist and producers but I am proud of my work. I got where I am today because I didn’t wait for other people to support, fund or make me. I am in this business because I love music It doesnt have to be on TV or a huge arena. It can be at some small beautiful place where my people are and we can have a great time. Weather its 300 or 30,000 I’m giving the same show. This business could never be easy because its so much talent out there. I encourage anyone to create your own lane and ride it your way. Trying to take the path that another person sems to have taken is just a waste of time.
I want the world to know is that God is real. It is true He will never forsake you. He is your shield, your wish granter, your way maker.He believes in your dreams. God is the only Yes you will ever need so seek Him and nothing else. Be kind and share as much love to other as you can because this life is hard and when you see me on stage I am trying to send love straight to you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge fan of California. Ocean Beach, Santa Cruz, L.A. etc. I love my city I believe Oakland is one of the dopest places in California to live or visit. Oakland’s Sweet Fingers Jamaican food, Walnut Creek’s Lita’s, Livermoore’s Elevation LVK & Monica’s. For the night life it is all about Club Zanzi in Oakland and Marina Lounge in Suisun and the San Francisco’s Castro is where it’s always at.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicated my career to my masterpiece of a mother Margena. She is not just my biggest cheerleader she is my best friend, my back bone and who Ive learned my work ethic from. She never stops, she never gives up and she shows so many people grace. I couldnt be me without her. Even in my music when I’m writing a song I often think to myself what would my Mommy say? I have made the majority of my career moves independently but for sure Mark Elliott at A-List Music Circle has been a huge door opener for me and my band through the years. Its been my Mom, Mark, my Auntie Christina, my stage manager Ty Ganter and my band that have gotten me to where I am today. I am truly blessed to have these people on my team.
