We had the good fortune of connecting with Ocho Mexico and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ocho, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by success of others around me. I am inspired by consistent hardwork and seeing the results. I am inspired by beauty.. I am inspired by underdog stories. I am inspired by faith and determination.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music is a direct reflection of who I am as a person. Deep, fun, energetic, aggressive, melodic, witty, moody and personal. Everything I write is based off of my personal experiences. I’m an natural entertainer. One thing that sets me apart from the majority is that I can actually freestyle in an free spirited engaging way. So I’m two different artists. When I wrote its deep and thought provoking and creative. When I freestyle it’s funny witty and hilarious and everyone gets involved.
As an independent artist I’m most excited about 2 songs charting on iTunes within the last 18 months. Appearing on BETJams and MTV Live.
Was my journey so far, easy, no. I had to lose a lot of friends and sacrifice a lot of personal relationships due to a lack of synergy. Coming up in Chicago is especially challenging. It’s a crab in a barrel mentality and there isn’t many outlets that presents any truly lucrative opportunities. It seems like a lot of smoke and mirrors.
Lesson that I’ve learned along the way. Stay focused and understand that it’s a bigger picture. “God’s plan not our plan. Our organic gps just knows the destination, not all of the construction, pit stops, accidents and other scenic details but we will always reach our destination.
“Life doesn’t come with a remote, you have to get up and change it” I want the world to know that if I can do it anyone can do it. No one knows what your destiny is but you and the bestower. Your life is your life. Never take advice from anyone that’s never been in your position or not in a position that you want to be in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
#1 favorite spot is a Mexican Restaurant called “Pancho Pistolas” Chicago is known for deep dish and mild sauce and pizza puffs. Most of the culture is inside the “inner city” it’ll be like a safari trip. Start inside of the jungle and then visit downtown maybe. Honestly my favorite spot is the studio and performing at venues and we will have to freestyle and work around that. It’s a lot going everyday if the week. Also, I have ties to motorcycle clubs. The possibilities is endless, with me!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Bentley Records and the CEO Luca Dayz and also Megastar the CEO Loud Money Music Group based in Chicago.
