We had the good fortune of connecting with Ofelia Aragon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ofelia, what do you attribute your success to?
My name is Ofelia C. Aragon. I was raised in Guatemala, raised catholic, and believed in God above all things. Growing up in Guatemala, I witnessed the hardships that my mother and father faced growing up. Living under humble means gave me the strength and fortitude to believe in myself and never look back. Growing up, my parents taught me the importance of self-respect and striving to be the best person you can be. At a young age, I recognized that I had something in me that wanted to serve others before serving myself and to one day have a family of my own. Having a family requires great responsibility since it means the continuation of oneself. When a woman decides to have a family and take on this responsibility, this decision should always be supported and protected because having a family is glorious. I believe firmly in the importance of the family and that a family requires work, love, and patience every day from the moment one wakes to the moment one sleeps. This strong belief would lead me to create my Doula and nanny company called Mothering the Mothers, Inc., which has now served hundreds of families and mothers all across Los Angeles. My passion is to support women because some women do not have the proper resources or help to progress ahead. Due to this lack of support and encouragement, they expose themselves to unnecessary dangers. Women without the appropriate help believe that they have to conform to what life gives them. Still, I have felt that if women and new mothers are given the right resources, information, and opportunity, they can move through life with fortitude, self-belief, and care. I have always fought for what I believe in, and this belief and passion for supporting women and families have earned me respect from peers and my clients. I believe that who I am, what I believe in, and what I strive to be for myself, my family, and others is why I am successful today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mothering the Mothers is a company specializing in the support and wellbeing of a mother’s labor and postpartum. We specialize in providing prenatal and postnatal knowledge and care to mothers and new parents.
My company and I understand that this period of a family’s life is delicate. The team that I work with is not only committed to attending the new baby and mother during this period, but we strive to assist the family beyond that. During a family’s postpartum period, the mother deserves a lot of care, attention, and love. The care that my company and I provide is personalized and unique to each family: we make sure that the baby is developing well and gaining weight, that the mother is breastfeeding and breastfeeding correctly, that the mother is learning how to take care of her newborn, and that the mother develops her own maternal instincts and skills to care for her family. We also teach the father to have confidence in his role as a parent and how he can support his partner and care for his newborn. Here at Mothering the Mothers, Inc., we focus on the entire family. We believe that the quality of care and attention we provide for a family encompasses all aspects of the home. During labor, I believe that a women’s body can do great things. A Doula can alleviate labor by coaching and teaching a mother to have the birth that she wants. I believe that providing support for the mother before, during, and after labor is a special support that can help a mother establish a successful start to her new family. With the support of an experienced Doula, the possibility of a natural birth is possible. Ultimately, my goal is to develop bonds between all family members and show each family the beauty and satisfaction of motherhood and parenthood. I have nurtured hundreds of babies and guided new families on the commencement of their roles as parents through their labor and postpartum. For thirty-eight years, the quality of care, attention, and service that my company provides is what sets us apart from others and why our clients leave with such deep admiration and respect for our work.”
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wonderful three boys and my loving husband, and my client who entrust in me the most personal and important phase in their life—the start of their family.
