We had the good fortune of connecting with Veetchy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veetchy, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“You will not have what you don’t have the courage to demand, nor the will to bring into existence” I go by the quote as motivation all the time because it speaks for itself. Nothing in this life but death is promised. Success is neither promised nor assured so in order for us to attain whatever level of success we seek, we have to be able to go and get it, and if those opportunities are not given to us, we have to have the will to create them for ourselves.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go by the name Veetchy and I am a recording artist, songwriter, and producer. I come from a town called Douala in the central African country, Cameroon. We listen to every kind of music in Cameroon and so everyone is pretty much a music lover. However, my interest in music started when in middle school when one of my close friends and I, Judah who co-produced one of my recent singles, Let Loose ft. Shanay Morant started free-styling in class and writing hooks for fun. The hooks turned to full songs, and before I knew it, my songwriting skills developed as I use to write at least 2 songs every week. Those songs were mostly about love, thus explaining the RnB influence in my pen. I took a big break later as I progressed to high school to focus on school but still wrote a few times, just to keep the touch. Fast forward to college 2 years ago I decided to see if I still had it so I started writing to an instrumental I made in 12th grade. I was impressed with what I did, and so I resumed my writing at that point and wrote my first two singles, Trill vibes, and Memories, which are available on all streaming platforms. I realized at that point that this was my calling and this is what I wanted to do with my life. The thought of switching from a Computer Science course/career to music is kind of scary, considering where I’m from but in life when you have a gut feeling and a sense of direction that tells you or shows you what you really like, you have to embrace it, accept it, and work very hard towards that direction to make sure you accomplish your goals. What sets me aside from other artists or creatives is my Afro influence and how I incorporate that in my songs to still give it that punch it needs. I invite you all to listen to my not-so-big catalog as you might have a better understanding. I currently have 5 singles out already and I am working on a project with Shanay Morant and so far it is very promising and we can’t wait for the world to hear it when it is done.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am not a very outdoor person so most people may consider me to be a little boring. If my best friend was to visit today we might not have much to do since we are still in a pandemic somehow. However, if we were to have some outdoor activities, I would take them to Santa Monica beach as that is a very popular beach here in the Socal area. They would probably love skiing as well so we might go to Big Bear Mountain ski resort. I haven’t been there myself but if I was to have my first ski fail, I’d love for my besties to be with me. I have been to Malibu so we can always go and see the beautiful beach and watch see the beautiful scenery. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a big shoutout to my friends, my close circle, for always encouraging and pushing me towards my dream of becoming an artist. Waking up in the morning and realizing you have a talent is one thing. But deciding to make a career out of it is another scary thing especially when that might not be what you had planned from the beginning. When making such a critical decision in your life, you need to have a strong will and courage to do it, but most importantly you need the right people by your side to motivate you. I know the road is very long but with determination and the right people by my side everything I am not so worried.
