We had the good fortune of connecting with Ozzy Brawn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ozzy, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Some people might think that music is just a product or a piece of entertainment, but the reality is much more magical. Music is frequency and energy. It’s spiritual in nature and can influence us from deep within our core.

Making music is creation at its most fundamental level.

As artists we are crafting and molding frequencies from nothing. Forming something new into existence like true magic.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I had a lot of exposure to music growing up, and as a result of the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Choir in Melbourne, I received a great deal of ear training and musical knowledge. There I learned how to sing and control my voice, along with the foundation of music and theory now engrained in my nature.

I wasn’t aware of my ability to create music until my adult life.
But I soon realized the wealth of information I had accumulated over the years, and began songwriting and producing on my own.

After discovering my songwriting talents, I began the slow journey of learning music production; an arduous task of which I am endlessly grateful.
After pushing the amateur boundaries, I advanced my comprehension of the craft by attending ICON Collective College of Music in Burbank California.

My focus in creating music is to play in the realm of magic, creating and weaving with harmony and story.
I like to envision the production of music akin to sorcery.
Like crafting a spell with energies and frequencies, pouring my intention and intuition into every component of each piece of work.

With each new song, I like to hone in, getting closer and closer to that foundational idea of creation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While there are countless wonderful places in Los Angeles, I find myself frequenting the Brand Library Park in Glendale. It is home to a number of beautiful hikes, with the best view of greater LA from the top of the mountain range.

I always like being up at a great height where the geography of LA becomes apparent.
It is a beautiful network of cities and streets, like a living breathing organism with veins and arteries of moving traffic.

Renting a bike down at Venice beach, and riding it along the sandy paths is also another quintessential experience to LA. A truly magnificent feeling.

Also the park in South Pasadena, set in from Mission St and the train stop, which is sometimes home to wild peacock is quite charming and peaceful.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Growing up, I received the gift of piano lessons from the age of 6 through 18. My parents paid for lessons through my school, and I was grateful to be partnered with a wonderfully talented musician named Anne-Marie Quarrell. She taught me many layers of appreciation for music.
One thing I will always be fond of were the lessons in which I didn’t want to play, and I would ask if she could play me songs from the sheet music books we had.
I would sit back, and I would listen to a master with her instrument.
Her fluency, passion and talent by nature was and still is a great inspiration.
