We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Jellison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my personal training business 20 years ago with the thought process that I was going to help as many people as I could mentally, physically and emotionally through their health and fitness journey. When I was younger I was given an aptitude test which resulted in it saying I should grow up to be a social worker! Well with my personality, I knew that I would bring every patient/child home with me to try and save them all haha. I wouldn’t be able to leave that type of work at work. But what I did agree with from that aptitude test is that I was suppose to help people. I wanted to help people from the most positive avenue I knew possible and that’s through their health! Working out and eating right gives people confidence from the inside out. Throw a fun and silly yet knowledgeable personal trainer to the mix as their side kick and mentor… it’s a sure win:) That thought process brought me to this very moment 20 years later still doing what I am passionate about. Helping as many people as I can, mentally, physically and emotionally through their health and fitness journey.:)
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I LOVE FITNESS and I LOVE PEOPLE. Because of that love I decided to go to college and earn a bachelors degree in exercise science. I knew with that degree I could follow my passion and help as many people as I could through their health and fitness. When I was 21 years old I opened my very own fitness studio in Elkhart, Indiana. With hardwork, drive and passion I grew that business into something beautiful. I helped as many people as I could within the 17 years of owning my fitness studio. It wasn’t always easy but I loved what I was doing so it made it all worth it. However, I knew there was more out there and more people I needed to help. I also knew that I just missed doing what I loved and that’s focusing on the people. Having to take care of a building and having any issues fall on you being the owner takes time away from the passion behind it sometimes. So I sold my fitness studio in 2018 (It is still flourishing, yay) and moved to Nashville,TN. Here in Nashville, I am a self employed Personal Trainer. My business thrives through training people in person either within my garage gym called JelliFit Gym aka “JFG”, or I train mobile, where I go to them to take the “I don’t have time” excuse out the window. I also have an online platform through my website www.paigejellison.com. I design specific training programs for people who aren’t able to train with me in person. I am also working on growing my brand to help even more people through a streaming platform. So stay tuned for that:) I am extremely proud of going after all of my hopes, dreams and passions and making them all come true. I am always coming up with new goals and dreams and will always push hard in pursuing them. That is how I have gotten where I am today. I will keep pushing towards that main specific goal, which is helping as many people as I can with their health and fitness.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Alright it’s my best friends first time to Nashville, TN. So much to do, so little time:) Nashville is known for it’s main crazy strip of bars called “Broadway”. It’s a crazy time, full of live music in every bar you pass by or go into. It is definitely something to experience. So we would hit there first and while we were downtown we would stop at the best milkshake place called “Lengendairy”. That will fill your tummy for the day haha. Then we would go hit up my favorite tattoo shop called “Hart & Huntington” and get a tattoo from Mel.:) Food is amazing in Nashville. While she was here I would make sure to take her to some of my favorite places to eat… Grill Shack East, Wild Cow, Graze, Castrillo’s Pizza and Southern Grill:) Oh and to finish off the delicious meals we would have to stop for dessert or breakfast depending on who you are at “5 Daughters Doughnuts”. The chocolate sea salt 100 layer doughnut is AMAZING!! I would maybe take her to the Johnny Cash museum, and/or The Music Hall of Fame. I would hope when she comes we could go to a concert at Ascend Ampitheater or a Predators (Hockey) or Titan’s (Football) game. All the while we would be hanging out with all my amazing friends in Nashville. And as a grand finale we would hop on the best entertainment bus ever called “BIG Drag Bus”. Talk about a great time…It is so much fun!! That would be a must before she left!! To say the least, she will need a vacation from her vacation to visit me in Nashville, TN. HAHA:)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shoutout to my parents and my life partner who have always supported my ideas and passions in life. I would love to give a shoutout to the aerobics instructor of the very first Gym I ever joined. I admired her and her passion for helping the people she taught in her classes. You could tell she genuinely wanted to help people feel better about themselves. I loved that and knew from watching her work that I wanted to follow in her footsteps:)
