We had the good fortune of connecting with Path and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Path, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my journey in the music and entertainment industry came from a combination of two key things: my passion for music and creating music, and my desire to be fully independent and not have to work for someone else. Similar to why someone would buy property instead of renting long term, you have more control and the ability to get a real return from your investment. You can cap out on earnings working for most other people’s businesses while they make the vast majority. I want to be in control of that vast majority.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Path, and I am a multi-genre recording artist and producer from Louisville, KY. I’ve had a love (and an ear, according to my parents) for music ever since I was maybe 4 years old. I’ve been singing and playing instruments since I was super young, maybe 4 years old or so. I picked up guitar at 10 and drums in high school, and then started producing and making beats in college once I met YGB Jay (shoutout to bro!), who coincidentally lived directly upstairs from my dorm at the time. I think what sets me apart from other artists is honestly just the music. I draw musical influence from so many directions at once, and I try to blend styles and sounds that I like to make something that hasn’t been done before. If you’re an artist, you know how difficult it can be to come up with something totally fresh and new, both from an instrumental and a lyrical perspective, so that’s what I’m most proud of. Every time I meet someone and show them my songs, they tell me that I don’t sound like anyone they’ve ever heard before, and that it’s fire. It is so fulfilling to share your art with someone you’ve never met, and for them to geek out about it and ask where they can find it.

Over the course of my endeavors into the music industry, I’ve learned some things that I feel have driven me to where I am. Some lessons I’ve learned from my team and mentors, some things I’ve learned the hard way. I’ve lost money, I’ve been stolen from, I’ve been lied to I can’t even tell you how many times. But at the end of the day, one of the most important lessons I have learned is to determine who you can and can’t trust, and to what degree. Some people are more sheisty than others, some are more trustworthy and genuine.

What I want people to know about Path is that this is not about me. This is about helping others who relate to things I talk about in my music. This is about advocating for mental health, as I and countless other people struggle every day with depression, anxiety, and a plethora of other mental health afflictions that absolutely DO NOT get enough attention or assistance. This is about allowing people an outlet, who feel as though they have none. This is about connecting people together, and creating a community who love and support one another. This is about encouraging people to be their best selves through learning and growth, as I have been pushing myself to do, both as a person and an artist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place we’re going is to grab some sushi at one of two spots. Wild Ginger in the Highlands, or Ginza Asian Bistro on Shelbyville road. Neither of those two spots will ever fail you if you’re craving sushi. After that I’d say we should check out some shops around the Highlands or a good trail in the Louisville Loop. There are tons of cool hiking and biking trails around the city, so those are usually a go-to for me. Of course, if this hypothetical friend has never been to Louisville before I suppose we should probably go to the world-famous Louisville Slugger Museum, I mean, how could you not? The last place on the list is Louisville Glassworks. This is yet another Louisville tourist staple, and it’s pretty sweet. There’s a lot of intricate glass artwork in there to inspire you.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to anyone and everyone who supports my music! Without the support of listeners and the team around me, there is no success. Speaking of the team, huge shoutout to Casey Coffey, AB Nabil, Joey Phantom, Rob Goodknight, and PhatShayn. Without this solid group of individuals around me, I wouldn’t have grown nearly as much. Another enormous shoutout to the lovely Winter White, who supports me every day. She puts up with a lot of late-night studio sessions and obsessive, repetitive playback of the same song, lol.
