We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to share my creations with the world. I knew that I had great products that are thoroughly researched and made with the most raw and sustainable ingredients. Also, As a parent I wanted the freedom to tend to my children’s needs without fear of discipline.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shea Rose Soapery LLC is a place to shop for natural self-care products. Whether you are entering the shop or ordering online, you should feel the love poured into each and every product. We have handcrafted soaps, soy candles, natural dish soap, herbal bath salts, and more. Every product is small-batch made in-store from the rawest and most natural of ingredients. In 2017, my children introduced me to batch bombs. I tried recreating them and was unsuccessful, lol. I then started experimenting with soap making and instantly fell in love with it! I would make my creations and give them out to family and friends only asking for their feedback in return. I took any constructive criticism and perfected my craft. Fast forward to 2020, the pandemic hit and I found myself with a lot of extra time on my hands. I obtained my LLC and started selling on my website. www.SheaRoseSoapery.com. I outgrew my home so once everything started opening back up I searched for a space and opened doors in June of 2022!
Shea is my business name comes from the raw shea butter that is used in our body butters and soaps. Rose comes from the beauty of roses and they smell great also. Soapery is pretty much self-explanatory, lol.
This was not an easy process at all! I literally started from the bottom. I am a mother of 10 children; all I knew was work and my children. I also went through a divorce during this time. My children have always been my biggest supporters! I have had every obstacle that could be thrown at me happen. Being a first-generation business owner, I am self-taught and had to (and still learning) learn everything from scratch so I made a lot of hiccups along the way.
I overcome challenges by never giving up and working tirelessly to find a solution. My children are my motivation. I’ve learned to always go at YOUR own speed. Don’t compare yourself to anybody else success because you don’t know what they went through to get there. You’ll most likely only see the results
What sets me apart from others is the amount of care, love, and research I put into every product.
I would like the world to know to never give up on anything that you are passionate about. There will be a lot of hard times but they are worth it in the end. I’ve had every reason and every excuse in life to not make anything of myself. I took the negative and turned it into positivity. I know if I can make it through so can you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many wonderful creatives in Wheeling, WV. I would visit Wheeling Heritage and check out the shop where everything sold there is handmade. They are always having workshops or events like Show of Hands going on.

You have to visit Table 304 and attend a charcuterie workshop, grab some coffee, and enjoy the comforting atmosphere.

If Melissa from Midge’s Kitchen is hosting a class, book ASAP. She uses the best ingredients to make delicious food that is delicious and equally beautiful.

Don’t forget to stop here at Shea Rose Soapery LLC located at 1207 Market Street!

Visit the Waterfront where you can take in the view or ride some Bird Scooters along the trail.

Head to Centre Market where you’ll find a host of shops from Casa di Vino-House of Wine, you’ll find a variety of your favorite beverages or new ones to try. (They have wine tasting twice a month). to Coleman’s Fish market to grab the best fish sandwich around!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Whole Wheeling Heritage Team for always being there! ACRE Wheeling
