Meet Phil Flock | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Phil Flock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phil, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being a corporate slave was never appealing to me. There is something i dislike about the idea of pouring my sweat, blood and tears into someone else’s business to make them rich.
That’s why i have this conversation with everyone interested in working for or with me. Trying to make them aware that they could work on their own business instead.
Because that is the only way to scale your skills, earnings and general growth.
In my opinion not starting your own business is straight up lazy and cowardly.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am good at what I do because the only things I do, I love doing.
I don’t make boring corporate videos. I don’t create repetitive music videos. I don’t seek any opportunity just to make a few bugs.
My passion is my work.
And I’ve worked on it and only it until it paid my bills.
In my case it took me 10 years of 100 hour weeks to get to a point to not worry about bills anymore.
Was it easy? No. Far from it. But I enjoyed every single second. And have no regrets.
I don’t think I’d be capable of putting in that kind of dedication in any other profession I’m not passioned about.
When you use passion as your fuel, you’re unstoppable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
At so Sushi in Tarzana you’ll find the best sushi
Maru ramen in Northridge has great rice bowls.
Tsujita in sawtelle has incredible dipping noodles.
Twisted meats in Thousand Oaks has Döner. A famous sandwich from my home country Germany.
I would avoid the touristy places. Point dume in Malibu is a lovely place to see. Eagles rock is a nice spot for photos with a sight of downtown.
If you want to see the Hollywood sign
Check out lake Hollywood park. Nice place to picnic and see the sign. While up there I’d check out The observatory. It’s spectacular.
Manhattan beach is The best Beach LA county has to offer.
And if there is some time left is check out big bear. It’s a nice place and fairly close.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Matt Tkocz, my brother, showed me that anything is possible if I put my mind to it. Without him I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m not even entirely sure if I was still breathing today without him.
He always finds the right words. Not always what I want to hear. But what I need to hear.
