We had the good fortune of connecting with Portobello Express and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Portobello Express, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
The composing process is what gives us the greatest satisfaction. We start from a rough idea of a song and it slowly evolves into a complete arrangement through the input by all band members. And when we enter the recording studio it’s magic seeing how that song takes shape and turns into a complete product. For us musicians, this is happiness.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The project Portobello Express started already around 2011 but it took us some years and line-up changes to find the perfect formula. We started out as a cover band; though we soon realized we wanted performing our own material. One thing was clear: a vintage sound was for us essential. Over the years the band has achieved that peculiar Psychedelic Blues touch that makes it unique in Vienna (and maybe even in Austria!).
The lesson we’ve learned: let your songwriting be genuine and don’t allow anybody to put you in a box.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Get your breakfast at a typical Viennese Kaffee house. Don’t forget to order a Melange and a a Kipferl! Invest a couple of Euros on vinyl, which offers the best sound ever: we suggest you Record Bag Music Store.
In the mood of shopping? Let’s take a walk on Austria’s biggest shopping mile, the Mariahilferstraße.
Right at the end of the street, you’ll find the Museums Quartier with plenty of art exhibitions and painting collections.
For a lunch break, choose the Café Rüdigerhof with its legendary Art Noveau garden.
In the afternoon, to help the digestion, take a trip at Schönbrunn or at the Zentral Friedhof.
And since in Vienna we love eating, it’s that time again: for dinner check out the Waldviertlerhof Restaurant. Here you will find delicious food with an authentic traditional taste.
Meeting friends or making new friends and for concert goers, we suggest the Chelsea Music Place on the Gürtel.
Don’t forget to get a beer! Cheers!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest mentor and supporter we had right from the start is our sound engineer and producer Andy Abraham. He is the fifth element of the band! Also we owe very much to all our followers, radios and fellow musicians especially on Twitter, who inspired us and gave us the strength not to give up. We love you all!
