Meet Quincy Kuang | Co-founder at Spatial Dynamics Design

We had the good fortune of connecting with Quincy Kuang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quincy, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The Covid-19 pandemic has shed light on many aspects of our life that we have previously taken for granted. As a hardware designer, I struggled to progress my career working from home. Luckily, a few friends in the city shared the same dilemma; thus, we came together to start a design consultancy that emphasized working face to face in a physical space, which is crucial for making hardware products.
What should our readers know about your business?
Spatial Dynamics is an industrial design consultancy that focuses on developing hardware technology products. We are relatively new and still have a long way to go in terms of accomplishments, but we are proud to expand our business recently despite the ongoing pandemic for the past three years. The early days of our practice were tough; we had little to no business, and the few we had were from our connections. We knew we just had to keep going and build out a portfolio to secure future clients, and it was not until recently we were finally getting some traction. The biggest lesson I learned in this journey is to value every connection I made. I never thought some connections would lead me to others that might appear irrelevant at first glance. I hope the world can know that Spatial Dynamics is built with collaboration and friendship.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would show them around our studio space which is located in Dumbo New York. We picked this location precisely because of the environment, which is good for working and relaxing (excellent for occasional breaks!)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our studio is named after a class that is taught at Rhode Island School of Design; “Spatial dynamics” is a foundation year studio that taught us the fundamentals of 3D design. My studio partners and I chose this name because we are grateful to the class that has inspired us to do what we do today. I would like to give a shout out to Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for the amazing four years of education, friendship and mentorship.
