We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Bean Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Be kind. Work hard. Stay humble. Smile often. Stay loyal. Keep honest. Travel when possible. Never stop learning. Be thankful always and love.” -Ritu Ghatuurey I think of these words daily with my family, my business, my friends, and routine. If you asked my kids what we say the most in our home, it would be “to be kind, always.” This quote is meaningful to me and quite simple, actually. I founded a fashion business, Wardrobe Therapy built on these principals. My business partner and our team of stylists are all of these and more. And of course, travel is so important in learning new cultures, experiencing new environments, trying new things and seeing the world from a different perspective. As an individual that is an extrovert and loves being with others, to love is easier than to hate. If the core values of ones company is built on passion, empathy and love, especially in a service business, then success will follow.
What should our readers know about your business?
Wardrobe Therapy is a fashion-consulting firm that has been working with individual and corporate clients for almost 15 years! We are based in Columbus, Ohio and can work virtually with our clients as well. We are a unique team because our core values are built on passion, dedication to shape & silhouette, relatability, and our saying is “Keep Making Everyday a Runway.” Working in the fashion industry is one where many think a stylists job is glamorous. Many times it can be, however working through budgets, shapes, real live bodies (both women and men) and personalities, in the service industry, can sometimes prove to be difficult. Our clients range from incredible tastemakers, emerging and executive leaders, stay at home moms, and entrepreneurs. Our brand is creative and purposeful. We believe that when you look good, you feel good. This mission drives us everyday to instill confidence in our clients through dress.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First Stop: Shopping destinations of course! We would start in the Short North. This area is a creative, modern neighborhood just north of downtown Columbus, Ohio. There are so many incredible restaurants, little shops and galleries. Our favorite clothing boutiques are Rowe Boutique (https://www.roweboutique.com) and Ladybird (https://www.ladybirdfashion.com). Each boutique is a different and lovely to shop for everything from casual basics to dressy dinners! From there we could do a quick lunch at either Brassica, which is a casual sandwich and salad shop serving fresh, made-from-scratch meals inspired by eastern Mediterranean cuisine or a sit down lunch at The Guild House. The environment is so lovely! There are so many unique shops, this destination is an all day event! We love local favorite, Jeni’s Ice Cream for a sweet treat.. and post COVID, can’t wait to sip drinks and dinner at Lincoln Social, Bristol Republic (for live music), or The Pearl for tasty oysters! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so fortunate to have many that have helped to contribute to my success! My parents and family have always pushed and encouraged me to try new things and showed me many unique experiences. My husband is probably my biggest cheerleader and one that never lets me give up on myself and dreams. Of course the clients at Wardrobe Therapy who encourage, support small business and trust in our team, and the mentors in my life, too many to name, that have always helped to push my limits; helping me to understand the business when I didn’t always know how to determine growth, who picked me up when I was completely down, and my partner who is in it with me now! So thankful for all of them.
