We had the good fortune of connecting with RACHEL Grant JACKSON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RACHEL Grant, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my online yoga business pre-pandemic. Part of the mission was to inspire people to move their practice off their mat into their lives. Having a home practice was one step closer to actualizing that goal. I set out to condense the philosophy and posture practice I taught in long form in person classes into short practices that could be done anywhere, anytime. Now every teacher is doing this and how great is that!

What should our readers know about your business?
I take great pride in how deeply I care about my students and about the legacy of the practice I teach. I have studied extensively and continue to study. I am proud of the integrity of my classes and the care with which I interact with my students. This business I run is a part of a sacred legacy. The experience my students/clients have is of the utmost importance to me. I’m not selling some spiritual bypassing version of enlightenment dressed up in trendy yoga clothes populating a saturated social media feed. My goal is to share an integrated yoga practice based in non dual kashmir shaivism to a group of people who have a deep desire to live their best lives. There have been many business challenges along the way. My husband is an entrepreneur and has been a vital advisor since the beginning. I called in many favors along the way especially when I was producing content. Luckily, I have talented students and friends who helped make my content a reality. One of the biggest lessons I learned has been about pivoting. I ask my students what they want and need and shift my offerings accordingly. When I began my online platform, I wasn’t as responsive to my students needs. Now, I feel a lot of freedom in offering many different experiences.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a best friend came for a post-pandemic visit, I would take them to several coffee shops including Go Get Em Tiger Highland Park and Verve in the Arts District. The Broad and lunch or dinner at Sushi Gen would be a must. We’d get up early one morning and hike the back trails of Griffith Park. I have a few favorite galleries downtown so we would definitely swing by Baert Gallery as well as OTI. We would practice yoga outdoors at Roam’s Frogtown location. We would seek out which location Maison Modulare was doing their latest pop-up and we would check that out for some shopping. A trip a bit further west would be necessary to indulge in some shopping at The Detox Market. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have had many great teachers, guides and mentors in my career including, but not limited to, all of my students, my parents, Ross Rayburn, Tiffany Fraser, John Friend, Haressh Wallis, Christopher Tompkins and my husband and daughter.
