We had the good fortune of connecting with Randall Meadows and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Randall, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business after retirement from the Fire Department because of my acquired skill set during my professional career. Part of my work in the fire department was to inspect structures, both residential and commercial, from a fire safety perspective and also from a forensic perspective after a structure fire. The education in building sciences and structural integrity was fascinating to me especially with the emphasis on finding deficiencies that can lead to structural issues and potential failure. This background coupled with my genuine love in helping people, lead me to open FOCUS Home Inspection Authority after my retirement from LA Co FD.

What should our readers know about your business?
The specialized background that I am fortunate to have plays heavily into my experience and manner in which I conduct my business. From my early twenties responding to emergencies as a Fire Paramedic, fighting fires, evaluating causes of fires, to developing an eye in finding structural deficiencies that pose potential safety and fire concerns, and then later in life gaining experience in mediating construction defect litigations for a number of major home builders in SoCal, I saw the need to continue applying myself after retirement in the home inspection industry to help people gain confidence in one of the most important purchases in there life, there home! Purchasing a home is a journey that can be stressful and full of unknowns. Yet at the same time, a home is where peoples story begins. Being a part of that story is a privilege, especially if we can help people gain confidence in this important investment in life. This is why I LOVE my work. Helping people directly or indirectly in this process is a privilege to me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love showing friends a good time. For me, it would start by enjoying our beautiful SoCal coastal cities, beaches, and sites along the coast, including the waterfront dining at Laguna Beach, a day at Catalina Island, and some relaxation watching surfers at Huntington Beach or San Clemente pier. Some of our friends still love visiting Disneyland and being a tourist for a day at downtown LA Farmers Market, and Hollywood Blvd.
