Meet Randi Weidman | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Randi Weidman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randi, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always had a thirst to communicate. A desire to connect. To be seen and heard. I believe this is what gave birth to my creative spirit. Being a shy introverted child was painful at times. I never knew how to reach out. The stage gave me a platform to exercise my will to convey. I felt heard. It’ was like learning a language and finally feeling understood. The theatre is a ministry of sorts.. I followed my calling actively working in the 99 seat theatres of Los Angeles, and began to audition for film and television..
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artistic work stems from the dark side of my soul expressing itself. Pain, fear and rage actually feed my comedic timing. As an artist I carry with me a toolbox filled with my emotional life. Everything is at my fingertips to play with.
I have done a ton of professional theatre and have had many accolades and reviews that have floored me. I think some characters are inside just waiting to express themselves and when they do a part of me is born…
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a 2nd generation native angeleno. I grew up at the beach so that is always a special place to visit. In Los Angeles we also have the mountains for great hiking. I love good food and the city is filled with amazing restaurants . Also, live theatre is big with me. My favorite being The Victory Theatre in Burbank. The shows there are top notch. Best productions in town, from incredible sets and costumes to the plays themselves. The theatre caters to new play writes. If you want to see the world premiere of a play with stellar working actors directed,. by the best. That is the theatre you want to go to in LA..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I entered Maria Gobetti’s class at the Victory Theatre Centre, around the same time I entered therapy. I was at a serious crossroads in my life. It sounds quite dramatic but, I had to decide if I wanted to live or not. Life was difficult for me. I was fearful and I had a hard time in my relationships. Both my therapy and my theatre training were godsends for me. Maria taught me how to act and my therapist taught me I was worth saving. These two things happened congruently. I was young and had much to learn. Years later I look back at this time with such gratitude. I needed some serious intervention and I got it! I began to lean into my life, and embrace my dark side. This of course propelled my acting. I was began to live the life of an artist. Finally I reached out to an old childhood friend, Gina Nemo. Gina runs the Ventura Actors Studio. Gina was able to breathe new life into me and teach me how to think fast., learning auditioning skills She’s been amazing.
