We had the good fortune of connecting with Randy Brady and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Randy, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
People always ask me, do you only want to throw shows in LA? And the answer to that is pretty simple: No! I want to throw shows all over the globe! I always thought Gravity Bookings’ name was a little too broad but after running events for almost 7 years now, I have come up with an even broader vision. I want to set up various brands in 6 of the 7 continents. I want Gravity Bookings to be a parent company in the future. I have the names and regions figured out already. I hope to be able to create trust around the world and have artists travel under our wing. It may sound crazy but when Elon Musk colonizes Mars, I hope Gravity Bookings could stay active down here on earth. You never know!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Now that events are on hold due to COVID restrictions, I have started a “zine” via Gravity Bookings’ social media pages. A zine is basically a DIY magazine for those unfamiliar. Each month I feature a few songs and a bunch of music news. It’s mostly hand written but I try to write as neat as possible. I have a spot for different artists to share pictures in the middle of the zine. I tag the mentioned bands, djs and musicians hoping to spread awareness. There’s so much talent to write about! Right now, the biggest challenge is prepping for a long term shift in live event normalities. In a weird way, that may be what we need. I want the world to know that Gravity Bookings spotlights bands that might not always get recognition and also connects with artists that might not always play smaller events.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s say this is happening pre / post COVID and everything is still in place. I’d invite them out on a Monday to check out the Free residency at The Echo, on Tuesday we’d grab tacos from my favorite truck on Chatsworth St. and Reseda Blvd. right by the church. On Wednesday we’d rent some gear and a lock out studio at Pop Music Studios in Northridge. They have the best gear and lowest prices! When Thursday came around, it’d be time to go hiking along the Limekiln Trail. Then on Friday and Saturday I’d recommend shows at either The Hi Hat, The Regent, or The Satellite. After the shows I’d point them in the direction of the low key “after hours” in DTLA. And last but not least go for a stroll on Sunday morning along the Will Rogers’ State Beach path! But the sad truth is, we might not be able to do some of those things if the local venues don’t get the proper funding they deserve. These essential parts of the community might not make it out. COVID 19 has been rough on everyone and it’s important we support local business anyway possible. Whether it’s donating or sharing a memory we can’t let these places (especially the event spaces) fade away.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son and his mother continue to be an inspiration for me and my endeavors. Without them I have nothing. Their support and love help me become the person I strive to be. The motivation and support I got from family and friends made Gravity Bookings what it is today. I’d also like to thank the music venues in Los Angeles, especially The Hi Hat, The Troubadour, and Teragram Ballroom for giving me a chance to throw events and make my early dreams come true. I’d also like to thank Garth Herberg for sparking my interest in the live music scene! So stay tuned for what Gravity Bookings has yet to become!
