We had the good fortune of connecting with Raul Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raul, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Believe in yourself, the finished product. Respect the process, goals are never met overnight. In order to succeed, one must be willing to take the risk that are required to standout amongst the rest. I allowed myself to grow, and find a sense of direction.
Please tell us more about your art. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art represents all walks of life. Whether rich or poor, in a sense we all struggle, the ultimate goal is finding what makes us happy. I try to show a world where everything is accepted, the good, bad, beautiful, and ugly. My story is about appreciating what is, I wouldn’t be surrounded by flowers had I never experienced rain.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I start my day with a peaceful walk to the corner coffee shop where I order my usual, a large cappuccino with caramel. I’m a people watcher, human life interaction triggers my imagination. I tend to sit at a park for long periods admiring nature’s coarse. I find reading a book surrounded by the bustling city sounds to be peaceful. A perfect lunch to me is a slice of pizza with a cold beer, and sketch book. I try to write and, or draw everything, it’s the story of my life. I’ve now stopped at several art supplies and book stores, but my day wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the record store. My next stop is my bar, where my friend and I will spend the next couple of hours discussing music, movies, and famous artist. It’s a discussion that usually grabs the attention of a fellow patron that chimes in with his/her opinion, which we open minds appreciate. My final destination is home, where I sit, and just take everything I’ve absorbed during the day, and apply it in paint.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My work has and will always be inspired by family. I come from a large one, I dedicate everything I put my heart and soul into to both, my beautiful daughters. I only stride in hopes of being a great example to them, we’re all given the opportunity to be what we desire to be. My work is dedicated to my two girls, be the best at what you wish to be ladies.
