We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because I wanted to express my curious creativity through a textile medium connecting story, product, and human to form a collaborative experience.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Rebecca; pronouns she/they. I am an immigrant running a grass-root socially and eco-conscious business that makes gender-inclusive fashion better for the planet and wearer. “A thoughtful wardrobe made the right way, not the easy way.” With a graphic/web design degree, I have built a strong foundation in marketing before returning to school and graduating top of my class in fashion and textile design. Forever a student I will continue to educate myself on social and climate issues that heavily influence garment design and brand decisions.

Rebecca Rae Design Inc. is an independent company with a mission to create conversation beyond the norms of politeness through clothing and textile art. All items are produced both in-house and via responsible small-scale manufacturing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my partner. They’ve been my cook, emotional support, logistics operator, and dog walker when I was too busy to take care of some of the life stuff. I couldn’t have made it this far without them. They support me during tough times and have always been there to lend a helping hand. They’re an essential part of my story, and I’m so grateful to have them in my life. Thank you, Trevor, for everything. You deserve all the credit in the world.
