We had the good fortune of connecting with Rena Davenport and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rena, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to start my own business, I had seen my industry operate from varying perspectives and felt like I had a clear understanding of strengths and weaknesses from varying perspectives. As a result, I felt I could do it better than my competitors and set out to do so. My thought process wasn’t to re-invent the wheel but rather to smooth out the bumps in a way that benefited the industry and the customers.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Exquisite Air Charter is a boutique private jet charter brokerage firm that I started in October 2004. I have been hands on since day one. This company is my passion; only second to my family! I have gotten to where I am today through hard work, long (very long) hours, relentless passion and dedication. It has never been easy; however, when you are passionate about something I believe perseverance comes naturally. Perhaps perseverance also comes from not really having a plan B and being the sole breadwinner so I couldn’t fail… failure was never an option! My perseverance has taught me, more than anything, that ups and downs are inevitable but it is important to be happy through it all and never forget, whether it is a high or a low, “this too shall pass!” Be prepared!

I wish more people knew how dedicated I am to truly doing what is best for my customers. I think a lot of people are in business for the money but I really get as much out of knowing I did a good job as I do out of the financial benefits.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie so when people visit I tend to want to take them to some of my favorite food spots. These include Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills, a Sunday brunch at Duke’s in Malibu (hopefully the dolphins are out), Nobu in Malibu for that amazing black cod (and more), The Hat in Pasadena for a pastrami sandwich, one of my favorite sushi spots (too many to name), if there is a good fight on then we’d probably watch it at Copper Mine in Woodland Hills, and if I am graced with a Philadelphia Eagles fan and it is football season then we’d probably go to one of the local Eagles bar/restaurants: The Garage on Motor Ave., The Britannia Pub, Oaks Tavern, or The Greyhound Bar & Grill. This is Los Angeles so we would, inevitably, have plenty of events to attend, shopping to indulge in, and of course… we’d book a nice day spa; most likely, Burke Williams or the Wi Spa – not as high end but a scrub so good that you don’t need lotion for a month and their salt/clay/jade sauna rooms are a must! If we had a full week then likely we’d book both spa locations!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everything I have done in life, good and bad, has always been for my two sons (and now my 4 grandchildren)! I work as hard as I do because I want their lives to be better and easier than mine. In the process, my clients benefit and that brings me joy too! I am very confident that I take great care of my clients!
