We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Jey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rick, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind your success and the success of my brand would be to never stop believing in yourself first and secondly, never give up on your dream. That means, self motivation, self discipline and work diligently no matter how many years it might take to finally have a shot at your dream. rj

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I host a TV show called “Spotlight on the Arts”. I interview and chat with all types of artists…visual, performing arts, sculptors, etc. I honestly believe that an artist of any type has it built into his DNA. Most artist are inspired by some type of medium but if you asked them they will tell you that they had the desire or hint of attraction to such. at a young age. This current year, I was recognized as one of the Top %0 Visual Artist by the Missouri State Fair and did exhibit a painting. I was also recognized by this venue in 2019. (In 2020 COVID shut down the State Fair. I have been a visual artist since about age 4 when I began drawing on the bedroom wall at our farm house.

At age 13, I was introduce to the stage where I Performed and sang, filling the role of “Sheriff of Nottingham” in the Robin Hood student play. I continued through High School singing and filling roles in plays and school musicals.
Once receiving my certificate from Columbia School of Broadcasting and received my first job as a radio D.J,, Tucson AZ KIKX,I recognized that the future was mine if I wished to pursue it because Tucson AZ was a place where movies were produced. I did not waist anytime getting into my first chance to audition.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start with a tour of the Missouri State Capital. I then would share the views and culture in and around the Lake of the Ozarks., Missouri. A trip to Kansas City Missouri would be a part of the itinerary visiting the points of interest chosen by my guest.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have three that I would like to recognize….first Broadcast Announcer Phil Jay at WHB Kansas City Missouri who always encouraged me to seek my dream of becoming a Broadcast Announcer. From age 13 to age 25 he was always there to encourage me and follow my path along with me as I pursued my dream and on through attending a Broadcast School know as “Columbia School of Broadcasting” (Kansas City Missouri and LA California <Van Ness Blvd. 1975>).

Secondly, one on one discussions with Walt Disney who believed in me at age 18 and offered me a chance to do screen shots at Walt Disney Studios.
And thirdly, actor Burt Reynolds (1978 in the filming of Smokey and the Bandit) who I visited with on occasion after the filming of “Smokey and the Bandit”). He always told me that I was marketable as an actor and broadcast announcer (DJ) and encouraged me to pursue an acting career.
