We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricky Alvidrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricky, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My Mother will foremost be my biggest inspiration. The amount of integrity she upholds daily is inspiring to me. Through her faith and determination, Even though she was been doubted, she perseveres. I’ve always regarded that as awe inspiring. She taught me to always have a sense of gratitude for what the day will bring. Thus, I’m inspired by the possibilities a day can contribute. Just having the ability to wake up, is something I am truly grateful for. Thus, the given opportunities that I have the potential of receiving inspires me. I am also inspired by the goals I have set for myself. My goal is to become an adaptive fitness trainer, and sharing my story of recovery. I hope to perpetuate inspiration for those who are in desolation. I enjoy reflecting on this mission statement. In addition, progress forward day by day. It instills purpose, inspiration, and humility.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently studying Kinesiology and Psychology at Cerritos Community College. I am also training through NASM for a Personal Training certification. Ultimately, I aspire to become an adaptive fitness trainer. I’d would be honored and humbled to train athletes through adaptive fitness. Furthermore, motivate individuals that personal conditions don’t define them. Specifically, it’s how our integrity defines us. Rather than our circumstances. It has been a challenge getting back into school. I feel as if I have had the process to rectify the sins of my youth. Throughout my academic career, I flunked a majority of my classes. So I am in the process of building my GPA respectfully. As I stated, I want to convey optimism, faith, and hope through physical fitness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely endear the beaches along the California coast. I’d want to travel, road trip wise. Starting off from the beaches in San Diego, and traveling all the way up the coast during the weekend. Taking in the sights, the different atmosphere of the beaches seen. Experiencing the culture and appreciating it through the various cities seen. In addition, enjoying the experience. Really, enjoying the semblance of freedom that the open road can convey. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have an immense amount of gratitude towards my family and friends. Whom, really inspire me and invoke humility within me every single day. Without them I wouldn’t have the amount of passion or drive to do what I seek to accomplish. I’d like to give a shout out to Orangetheory Fitness, where I train. The community, the family values, and the coaching/mentoring really allows myself to be the best version of myself. More importantly, I’d like to give a tremendous shout out to God. I feel as if every single day that I wake up is a monumental blessing. Having recovered from a near fatal accident, I feel as if I still have a purpose in this life. In addition, now that I have realized what my purpose is. I’m compelled to give it my all, body and soul.
