Meet Robert Lozano: Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Lozano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Ok, first of all I am my own worst critic and own that. I mean in a world full of social media there is never a shortage of critics. I definitely thought about quitting initially with my entry level gear, learning curves and all the barriers that come with being self taught. A big issue was comparing my work to others work. Now I use others work as inspiration and want to see everyone come together and build instead of all the hate. What has really kept me going is the passion for the art and it being a form of therapy. Plus actually being able to look back and see how much I progressed. Along with help from my two sons who have cameras of their own now and seeing the same passion in their eyes. To anyone that reads this, if you’re passionate about ANYTHING don’t give up and you’re not the only who has felt like you do. Most of all mistakes are OKAY! That’s part of the journey have fun.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I think what sets me apart is my determination to be well rounded in various genres of photography. I don’t share or post everything I take but Im working on alot of ideas and genres constantly. I push myself always to get the final idea or image I have in mind. People now a days can get sucked into the same exact composition, trends or just doing things because they are popular in the moment. I can careless about all that. Everything I shoot is simply because I want to (besides the paid gigs and speciifc request of course). My goal is to create things that others may have overlooked in the subject and all the surroudings. Its like speaking without words to create feelings, style, meaning and originality through my art. Nothing worth having comes easy it takes hard work, dedication, perseverance, sleepless nights, self-discipline and most of all passion for what you do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been inspired by so many artists its hard to narrow it down! I really dont want to leave out main inspirations since it is a wide variety and avenues. I’ll start with my two sons because they have been my biggest motivators besides actual strangers and people I’ve never even met. I wouldn’t of even of been able to get some of my favorite shots without their help. The first and only photography book I read so far that did help is “Get The Picture By Dan Richards. As far as photographers I will just name a few Estevan Oriol, Peter Mckinnon, Alen Palander, and Jared Polin. I’m not even going to start with the photographers on social because there is WAY too many!
